My local GW store is running a tale of 5 gamers to start the new year, as I'm one of the 5 gamers, I thought I'd post my list to see what Dakkites had to say about it. As we will be adding to the list in 500pt increments, I'll present the list in the same format. Without furhter preamble - 2000 pts of Tomb Kings

Stage 1 - 501 pts

Tomb Prince - General, LA, HW, SH, GW, Cloak of the Dunes

Liche Priest - Hierophant, Hieratic Jar, Collar of Shapesh

13 x Skeleton Bowmen

13 x Skeleton Bowmen

Short sweet and simple

Stage 2 - 491 pts

Liche Priest - Dispel scroll

12 x Tomb Guard - Standard

Tomb Scorpion

Screaming Skull Catapult - skulls of the foe

Starting to add the bulk of the army and its fighting strength

Stage 3 - 505 pts

+ x 4 Skeleton Bowmen, reorganize into 3 units of 10 each

+ x 11 tomb Guard, Banner of Rakaph (23 in unit)

22 x Tomb Guard - Standard, Banner of the Undying Legion

Here is the main part of the army, bowmen to harass and two uber blocks of Tomb Guard to chop things up

Stage 4 - 503 pts

Tomb King

Tomb Prince + Enchanted shield

Liche Priest + Dispel Scroll

+ 1 x Tomb Guard (24 in unit)

+ 2 x Tomb Guard (24 in unit)

Tomb Scorpion

Screaming Skull Catapult

Total - 2000pts

Tomb King and Prince join Tomb Guard and march straight towards the major enemy threat, Priests stay near Catapults and 1 group of archers as protection, other archers guard the flanks, scorpions work together either on one flank or may tunnel them depending on the game. I realize that another Priest might be better than the Prince but I want two hitty characters (fits my fluff). Any criticisms and constructive advise is appreciated. If you think it totally sucks, tell me why and what you think would work better. Thanks

So are all the stages added together at the end? There seems to be a sum total of more than 4 characters for the list by the end unless you are dropping some earlier ones as the later stages arrive..

no simply adding additional items to the characters that I already have, at the end I have 1 Tomb King, 1 Tomb Prince, and 2 Priests

i like what you have so far, but just out of curiosity, why the bowmen at the start, will you be playing games against the other gamers?, cause i dont know if you will win many of them at the start, seeing as you dont have much hitting power IMO

need 2 core right, only thing I could squeeze in at 500, depending on the Prince and priest to make the extra shots count and then the Prince to help with combat. Hoping that fear also lends a hand, one failed fear check could be all I need. I realize that I am weak at 500, but at 1000 and 1500 I should be strong and then be competitive at 2000

ok, i agree that bowmen were possably the better choice for that points. why 2 screaming skull catapults, why not a bone giant?, just out of curiosity, it has been a while since i broke out my tomb kings so i am a little blury

I imagine because bone giants cost more than 2 catapults, and are less likely to do anything. Bone giants have their place, but this is obviously a castle up and shoot list.

To original poster, is there a reason for going with 2 units of guard? They seem to me to be quite costly in points (and in money lol) for something that really isn't much better than other armies basic guys. They don't really have any above average punch, and don't have any more durability then regular skeletons. Now the banner of Rakaph is a nice piece of rules abuse lol, 20 inch charge, but I don't see point of paying for the second block. A unit of skeletons would be almost as effective, and a heck of a lot cheaper. How do you have your king loaded out? I'm kind of curious what benefit you get having the king in this army, you don't have any chariots, nor do you have regular skeletons with banners, so I can't really see what he is doing for you. A lich high priest might be better for you. If you went with this then I would go with 1 LHP, 1 LP, and 1 prince. At this point level more characters without specific reasons would just hurt you.

This might be a slightly better version of what you are going for at 2000:

LHP: cloak, staff of ravening, jar
LP: 2x scroll
TP: great weapon

3x10 skeleton bowmen
1x25 skeleton warriors with LA HW and Shields. full command

24 tomb guard with full command, and banner of Rakaph
2 scorpions
1x3 Ushabti

2x skull catapults with no upgrade.

Since you need to keep the 'phant alive, i gave him the cloak to fly out of trouble, he also will let your magic (which is what make TK good) go off more often. Other LP is to hang with the battery of SSC and cast smiting. Prince is just to keep the army legal, and to run in the TG to give them an extra chance at getting Urgency. Scorps do what they usually do, and the Ushabti are a powerful counter assault unit.

There isn't really any powerful combat charecters in this list, because TKs suck at this role. The book is on the wrong side of the army book power creep, so trying to run you guy as a combat monster isn't point efficient. (well i like the flaming chariot, but this is a no chariot list).

I thought about running a LHP but it doesn't fit my fluff, besides its called Tomb KINGS on Tomb Priests. Eventually I want to run a majority chariot list so I need the King. I already have all the tomb guard, despite only two poses still more fun to paint than skellies. Two units again fit my fluff that's why I don't go with the skeletons.
I also had to take into consideration that I need to break the army down into 500pt blocks that were manageable paint wise.
Not big on the Ushabti, love the models, not convinced of their usefulness in the game. I'll try out LHP and 2 Princes later and let you know what I think.

Thanks for the input thus far, keep it comin'

Ok, what about this?

Tomb Prince - LA, HW, GW, Enchanted Shield, Brooch of Great Desert (General)

Tomb Prince - LA, SH, HW, Cloak of the Dunes

Liche High Priest - Staff of Ravening, Collar of Shapesh

Liche Priest - Dispel Scroll, Hieratic Jar

10 x Skeleton Bowmen
10 x Skeleton Bowmen
10 x Skeleton Bowmen

24 x Tomb Guard - Standard, Icon of Rakaph
24 x Tomb Guard - Standard, Banner of Undying Legion
Tomb Scorpion
Tomb Scorpion

Screaming Skull Catapult
Screaming Skull Catapult

2000pts on the nose, doesn't really suffer from loss of fighting with two princes and gains an incantation with the LHP, What do ya all think?
