Hey, who knows if I'll keep posting here? Not me, that is for sure, but here are the first few models I've started paining in 15 years... I don't like the way these look on the screen, and I hope natural daylight gives better results, but here we are for now.

Nice old wagon. Fairly happy, even with the flames.

I love these Dread models. This one needs a final fine highlight on the yellow and lots of detail. Esecially the viewing port, which needs to be perfect.

Very nice painting, the detail work looks convincing, and the depth of the yellow is good.

Are you going to add battle damage? Might just be me, but I find that ork armies just look better when they´re dinged up good an´ proper.

Though I realize that you may well feel that it would ruin the look of the yellow..

I've never added battle damage before, not successfully anyway. I worry that it would go wrong and it would be unfixable. I am even worried about trying to add some flames to the Dread.

On a brighter note, I just had good results on the mek's eyes.

This might help you get your wings on battle damaging. Using a dark brown or even a dark grey might work out nicely for that yellow.

Great job so far btw.

Cheers for the compliments guys. Some of the painting quality in this forum is pretty intimidating!!

I think I'll try that foam method out. It looks pretty simple, but also very effective. I have another old battlewagon kit that I have converted already to give an 'ard case, boom gun and rokkit launchas. I reckon it'll be the perfect model to try it on.

Hey thanks. Both the kan and the wagon are Iyanden Darksun (kan over white, wagon over black) with a heavy Gryphonne Sepia wash, then layered up with quite a thick coat of golden yellow (this stage looks awful) and then sunburst yellow. The sunburst is practically drybrushed on, only a tiny bit wet.

The wagon has had fine highlights done in 1:1 sunburst yellow:skull white and then a tiny bit with 1:2 sunburst yellow:skull white

I forgot how slow a painter I am.

Taking close up photos is depressing. I keep spotting imperfections that I can barely even see with the naked eye. That blue patch on the yellow trousers, the boots look crap... grrr...

I am quite pleased with this Dread.

It is not perfect, but it is the first thing I have started painting in 15 years, so it is satisfying to have finished something to a good gaming standard.

I am quite pleased with the depth of colour for the yellow, and I was worried about painting the fist, but I feel it came out really well, IMO, and was not too difficult.

Not so pleased with the final fine highlighting and the metal regions are okay but not great. I could have done the red bits better, but it looks okay, I reckon.

I know I do not have the skill to paint flames small enough to look good on this Dread to a standard I'd be happy with. I'm still practising on bits of card and other models, but didn't want to mess up this model.

So, "Fist" is done. Next, "Moon" (half-finished), then "Skull" and "Teef".

Yup, four Deff Dreads.
