This is what I'm planning for my first army list (based upon the models I have).

Feedback would be great - what works, what doesn't make sense, etc.

Lords:

Chaos Lord: Daemonic Mount, Mark of Nurgle, Shield, Glaive of Putrefaction, Blasphemous Amulet, Crown of Everlasting Conquest, Word of Agony

Heroes:

Chaos Sorcerer: Level 2 Wizard, Dispel Scroll, Spell Familiar, Mark of Slaanesh, Third Eye of Tzeentch

Chaos Sorcerer: Level 2 Wizard, Dispel Scroll, Power Familiar, Mark of Nurgle, Third Eye of Tzeentch

Core:
5 Chaos Warhounds

5 Chaos Warhounds

20 Chaos Marauders: Shields, Light Armor, Mark of Slaanesh, Full Command

12 Chaos Warriors: Shields, Halberds, Mark of Slaanesh, Standard Bearer, Musician

12 Chaos Warriors: Shields, Halberds, Mark of Slaanesh, Standard Bearer, Musician

5 Marauder Horsemen: Light Armor, Flails, Mark of Slaanesh, Musician

5 Marauder Horsemen: Light Armor, Flails, Mark of Slaanesh, Musician

Special:
5 Chaos Knights: Musician, Standard Bearer, Banner of Rage, Mark of Nurgle

Army Total 1996

The idea is that the big block of marauders march up the middle with the warriors on either side. The marauder horsemen attack both enemy flanks, and the knights go on the flank with one of the marauder horsemen groups, depending on how the enemy deploys. The sorcerers go with the warriors to weaken the enemy (in the case of the Nurgle sorcerer) or try to get the enemy closer (in the case of the Slaanesh sorcerer). The Chaos Lord goes with the knights. I outfitted my Chaos Lord items that would allow him to be a hero killer, but also be able to take a few hits in case he gets hit first. I'm also considering trading the Glaive of Putrefaction, Crown of Everlasting Glory, and Blasphemous Amulet for the Chaos Runeshield, Axe of Khorne and Favor of the Gods.

Again, any feedback would be appreciated. Also, I have a question. I know that normally if a character joins a frenzied unit he gains none of the benefits but still must charge with the unit. Does this apply in the same way for my Chaos Lord joining my knights unit, or does the Banner of Rage give my Chaos Lord frenzy too?

You can't have 'Third Eye of Tzeentch' twice in your army...can only be given to one character.

I'd dump the light armor on the horsemen and give them javelins instead...they are cheap and in most situations, expected to die anyway. but thats' how I use horsemen.

If possible add more models to the chaos knights unit, 6-8 preferably because they rarely reach combat with their full strength.

Your chaos lord will enjoy the benefits of the Banner of Rage...have fun steam-rolling..heheh

Cheerz!

Not a bad list Toast, I like the nurgle/slaanesh combo as well (necrophilia ). As Unforgiven notes, you can't take 3rd Eye twice ... I'd say take it only on the slaanesh guy, as the lore of nurgle is HOT and the lore of slaanesh is pointless against ItP armies, so stealing their spells would help him have some more options.

Personally I think your lord is kinda bloaty - the word of agony and the demonic horse mostly. The word is pretty awesome, but dropping the word and downgrading the demo-horse to a barded steed (+2 armor save, for a rocking 1+) gets you 66 points. Add 25 for the dropped Eye + 4 extra and you've got 95 points to buy more maniacs with (!!).

What to add? I'd say a nurgle spawn (85 points) to guard your rear / flanks and generally do crazy things. T5 and -1 to hit makes him a tough cookie and spawn are always fun. I'd really like to see the sorcerers on horses (2+ save), but that's 32 points total and foot sorcerer models are easier to find in general.

On the marauder cav I think you've got the build spot on, with MoS making the ultimate little light cav baiters, flankers and war machine hunters.

Oh, and props on the combo on the lord, glaive + amulet is a neat trick

EDIT: Also, the lord totally gets to benefit from the frenzy if he's riding with the knights. 6 attaks with the glaive, sexy.

EDIT2: I'm not sure what to do with the 10 points left over after the spawn. Maybe combine with the spell familiar on the slaanesh sorcerer to get him a nice 25 point item? Not sure what that would be (power stone?), but another so-so slaanesh spell doesn't seem all that great. Or you could give the lord stream of corruption or another <25 point gift for flavor? OR go with conjoined homunculus on the nurgle sorcerer, that's the other hot gift you see a lot of. Might go stupid but big payoff.
