I was thinking it would be interesting to do a preheresy EC army using like 30 marine Plasma Cannon models as sonic blasters, but would that be fluffy? Im sure they had dev squads back then, but did they have plasma? IIRC it is a later find by the Imperium.

Yeah they did have plasma.
What they didn't have were sonic blasters
They were invented during the heresy.
Emperor children had jetbikes aswell, so converting is on you my friend.

Right, I knew they didnt have sonic blasters, I was just trying to think of a way to represent them in the rules with a SM model

Thanks!

Plasma was pretty rare at the time of the Heresy. iirc, plasma cannons were mostly mounted on Dreads and were not used as a marine-portable weapon at the time. Melta weapons were also pretty rare, and the multi-melta was also mainly used by dreads.

Most of the heavy weaponry at the time was 'slug' type - autocannos and missile launchers were very popular. Heavy bolters were not uncommon in the marine ranks.

In the dark future, there are skulls for everyone. But only the bad guys get spikes. And rivets for all, apparently welding was lost in the Dark Age of Technology. -from C.Borer
