Ok, so I am putting a story together and had a question. The basic start of the story is that a poor fella gets plucked from his homeworld and drafted into the guard. On his first drop his landing harness malfunctions and he is trapped in his chair. Well his unit leaves him as they are disembarking under fire, and he spends two weeks trapped in his chair in the dark. (thank god for his field rations) after some unplesantness, our hero is press ganged into the crew of the ship, but slips in with another transported unit. After some more trials and tribulations a commisar discovers our hero and is about to execute him for deserting his first unit. While this happens a tarot deck goes flying and all of the cards land face down with the exception of.... What would be face up that would allow our guy to live? I am a little hazy on the specifics of the tarot. THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Wouldn't the guy be able to just get out his knife and cut himself free. If he can reach his rations his knife should be within reach as well. I think a better idea would be that his harness breaks on impact and he slams into something breaking an arm or a leg or something of that sort and then his unit forgets about him as they are under fire.

Think more like metal bar and pad. Like a rollercoster, or aliens drop ship.

The only description of the tarot in any detail I've seen has been in the Draco series of books, which I think have been re-released from the black library. Unfortunately, they don't even mention of describe all of the cards in the Tarot.

From memory, and its been awhile, there are cards such as The Emperor, The Warp, The Eye of Terror, The Custodes, The Titan, The Ecclesiarch, The Navigator, The Mechanicus, The Astartes, The Xenos, The Daemon, etc.

(I've probably made up a handful there, but you get the idea)

It would be very easy for the card of the Emperor to show face up, or make up some other card that has a "protective aspect or face for the common soldier", maybe The Lord General Solar, or The Imperial Hero, etc.

Since it hasn't been outlined in any detail, and it works similar (I think) to a standard Tarot, you can use your imagination.

Hope that helps some.

The Lexicanum is always a good place to start...

The Emperor seems like a good one. That said, there are still 65 unmentioned cards, so go crazy. Make something up, if you'd like.

Have you read servants of the imperium? There is one of those were they consult the emperors tarot and draw 'the undecisive commisar'.
