I dunno...

This tutorial originally came from WD 327, except the painting bit

Part 1 - Modelling the Sandbags

Stage 1
Roll out a sausage of GS, roughly 6 mm in diameter, then flatten it

Stage 2

Cut the GS into sections about 12 mm long

Stage 3

Score them down each side with a sculpting tool, you can then do whatever you want with them! I made this little wall

Part 2 - Painting the Sandbags

Stage 1

Undercoat the Sandbags with black primer, a hairdryer can be used to speed up the drying process

Stage 2

Paint the Sandbags with an even coat of Dheneb Stone Foundation paint (again, hairdryers are your friend)

Stage 3

Wash the Sandbags with Devlan Mud, do not ue a hairdryer this time as it will blow the wash out of the recesses.

Once this dries, you're good to go!

I love to make these, I just hate the amount of GS that they take to make.

Thank you for the tutorial, P4|\|(4K3, that looks great, and seems like an excellent way to make easy terrain. Are you familiar with the chewing gum method?

One easy way to get nice surface detail to sand bags made this way is to use an old t-shirt. Just press the t-shirt to the sand bags to give nice textile surface.

So this isn't exactly on topic, but where's the best place to get greenstuff? I don't use it much but I'd like to start... Any suggestions?

Hardware store. IIRC, greenstuff is really some sort of plumbing putty, designed to seal leaks. It's much cheaper at hardware stores, and you get more!

Really?! I actually used to be a rep in the plumbing industry but I never thought this was the same stuff. Is greenstuff epoxy based? If so, it probably is the same stuff (or mostly similar). I should check that out because I know really good places to get sealant or caulk based adhesives. Thanks for the tip!

You can also use Crayola air-dry clay. It's like play-do but better. And a lot cheaper than green stuff.

Indeed it is epoxy based. There are several similar modelling products that vary a bit in how elastic the final product is. Brownstuff that makes sharper edges for example, other versions that you can sand down etc.

It's nice, but I would prefer to make them larger.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

daloonieshaman (greenputty.com) is, unfortunately, going out of business.
He's running a HUGE sale right now.

He posted an ad about it over on bartertown (which, as of posting this is down for updates, though).
Some of his prices were INSANELY good.

Another way is to lay them out on a piece of cheesecloth. Gives a nice burlap texture.

Thread necro, but I have something to add for anyone looking for GS.

Here in the US there's stuff called milliput. you can get it at Hobby Lobby or some similar stores.

They produce several different recipes for different dried harnesses and working textures.

I use the rougher stuff for scenery/bases and for rough detail before I let it dry to use GS over the top of it.

Best of all, its about 7$ for roughly 5 times the amount you get in GS.

It could be worse, you could be on fire.
