In one of the UK modeling magazines this month there is a converted T-34 with an open topped superstructure and an anti tank gun mounted on it.

Does anyone have either a picture or some details of this tank (SP gun) as I fancy making one for Flames of War - more for fun than to play although if I made a couple of them I could use them as Marders.

I know the Germans would employ T34s (usu. T34-76s, far fewer 85s), though I am not sure about the specific modification you describe. Here are period pics of German T34 http://www.armchairgeneral.com/rkkaww2/galleries/ruscaptured/T_34M40.htm and a salvage of one http://www.rense.com/general75/germ2.htm . It is my understanding that the T34, if modified, was generally modified with a Pz III/IV cupola on the turret roof. A good site on German T34s is http://www.achtungpanzer.com/panzerkampfwagen-t-34r-soviet-t-34-in-german-service.htm . The Flak panzer T34 and reports of the gun from a damaged Tiger being fitted on a T34 are particularly interesting!

I see no reason why using Marder stats to represent a modified open gun T34 wouldn't be appropriate.

Sadly it is none of those, but they are inspiring pictures non-the-less. Thanks.

Is it the T34/88, used late war in the baltic states by the Germans? Proberly one only converted, a basic T34 hull with a classic 88 flak gun complete with shield stuck on the top. No idea what the flames of war rules are but i would thinks its like a Nashorn. Never seen a photo only a drawing, cant remember where!

I also saw a pak 40 with a wooden sheild around in a wargame mag.

In short the hulls where used a lot by the Germans, from turretless tractors, to mounting a quad 20mm flak etc..., so with the right opponent and a descent model why not do something unique?
