Hello Guys, recently ive decided to start playing epic: armageddon.. I dont know anyone who plays around here nor does the group i normally game with, They are not to thrilled at the idea of just buying some stuff and trying it out. so Ive decided to start 2 armies out for myself that way i can change up what im playign and so i can organize some demo games to try and get some people interested.
So far i cant decide which armies to start i am somewhat certain that i want one of them to be Eldar but as far as the second goes i have no clue perhaps Orks or space marines?
I was wanting to get some opinions on:
Which 2 armies i should go with?
What are some basic tactics for those armies?
How large of forces should i start with?
do i buy from GW or FW or both?
Are the models difficult to paint or are they not to bad?

Well thanks very much im only about half way through the rulebook so hopefully i can finish by tomorrow then i will prolly have more questions.. haha

Hi, and welcome to a great game.

I would recommend that you threw the Orks against Eldar. Both Marines and Orks are balanced forces, but the Marines can be very unforgiving on a new commander and suffer by small errors in tactics. You have to forget the disinformation about Marines being very flexible and able to cope with everything, in Epic they get over-runa nd out activated quickly, and need to be a strong strike force, really.

The standard sized game is either 2700 or 3000 points. Personally, I would start with 1500 point forces and build up to 3000 from there, adding formations as you get used to things. It may be best to start with 1500 points of units with no fliers or war engines, and then add these with the extra points as you get used to the core rules.

There is no problem buying from both GW and FW. Sometimes, FW are actually cheaper than GW. However, the FW can be very brittle and I have never heard of anyone ordering any FW Ork wagons and the smoke stacks not being broken on arrival. Also, be aware that FW fliers are true 6mm, while SG fliers are actually smaller.

The models are easy to paint, but a different technique is required. Look on them as an army, not a group of individuals and this will help. Keep thing simple and bold in colour scheme.

All the best, and good luck with the game.

1500 points is a pretty small force - depends on if you want to buy new or wait for something to pop up on eBay. I recently picked up about 2000 points in Tyranids for $130 from a web forum. More accessible armies like Marines and Orks would be even cheaper. New models are a bit more expensive (although the newer plastics are much nicer).

Armageddon is pretty flexible when it comes to actual models used, the Count-As rule and basing. I'd watch eBay for a couple of weeks and see what pops up.

The best advice I can give before you start, is make sure you have people to play against, as I know in my area there are hardly any epic players.

Dark Eldar - 1500
Blood Angels - 5000
Eldar - 21000
Space Wolves - 1500
IG - 1500
Dark Elves - 2000

im an ork player through and through but i just cant get into them in epic. the best advice i can give is armies play a lil different then they do in 40k. if i would have kept that bias, i would have never kept playing epic. i tried guard once before i made my choice to keep playing epic (i was about to quit) it turns out vehicles and titans are my thing, so i took up the Minervan list from Epic: Raiders. i also run the AMTL (titan legion) list alot, since i like my titans.
