Subject: So whats with the Dark Angels no longer being Plains Indians?

I was reading the old rules from Space hulk (in particular “Deathwing”, take a look on Boardgamegeek) today and it struck me again how much the “history” of the Dark Angels has changed, in particular with the new Heresy books and the planet Caliban…..
So does anyone know when and why they suddenly changed from being “Plains People” (ie American Indian style characters) to Monastic Medieval?
I loved the old style (Weasel-fierce, Lame Bear, Cloud Runner, etc), but as I was out of the hobby for a while what happened?
Cheers

As they are space bound, they occasionally change recruitment grounds. They left.
But I must say I agree with you, I too liked the plains people fluff. As you would see in the very same story you talked about, they were renamed upon indoctrination with a'monkish' name, and that shows they had that culture on caliban. So in short, the Indian planet, was not the first and not the last.

The plains planet that they recruited from became subject to a genestealer infestation.
the people forgot the way of the plains, and worshipped 'the four armed emperor'. the people were no longer honest and good, being morally corrupt.
this was cleared up by a single squad of deathwing terminators, and the librarian two heads talking.
the cult was annihilated, and the few terminator survivors rounded up the remaining true plains people, and organised them into new tribes, to bring back the old ways.
The planet is currently not in a fit state to produce recruits.
See the BL short story 'Deathwing' for the full thing.

I do enjoy the older Deathwing names. But I like the fact that they do take new names, more "Imperial" names as well. As the others have said, the said planet used for recruitment by the Deathwing was invested with genestealers and still is not fit for recruiting from because of the corruption. But the Plains Indians fluff can still be seen, even now on the newer models with the random feathers and such on the terminator armour, used almost like purity seals.

So simply put despite the Deathwing story saying this is the only planet they recruit from, its not?
Gotta love that ever changing fluff :-)
