Were it not for the fact that the whole "Eldar Fall" forced the DE to be cruel and evil, they'd be running around as normal Eldar.

The Chaos space marines are not powerful enough for it to matter anymore. They're just emo. The next CSM codex will probably make them into power-armored Stephen Hawkings.

Dark Eldar
Reason : They take pleasure from inflicting harm on people and torturing and causing general misery to its captured prisoners. Chaos Marines are merely appeasing their God

hmm IIRC there are bunches of chaos marines that get off to killing, maiming and causing pain...and during hte invasion of terra didn't a legion turn from the fighting to go to a city and grind down its people into parts for their pleasure drugs...the DE just torture their victims..Chaos marines get high off theirs, my humble opinion chaos marines are more evil in general

I think it's close. Dark Eldar do what they do to hopefully get Slannesh, their own creation, off of their tails and to hopefully prevent their extinction, which is selfish but justified.
CSM do what they do because they succumbed during a civil war when they thought they were doing what was good (possibly), so also justified. Though I'd say CSM are more evil since they were born from treachery.

IMO it's Dark Eldar. They are sick puppies. They are bad.

...But really Evil is in the beholders eye in 40k, as most of the races seem to do shifty things every so often...

The Eldar are the more evil. Their people had the benefits of nigh immortality, psionic empathy, vast experience and scientific enlightenment. Despite their understanding of what they were doing, being forewarned and forearmed they still turned to chaos.

The Space Marines are just big, dumb jocks. Monkeys following the urges of their perishing flesh. Their understanding of their chosen path was limited. Thus, they are less evil...

Huh. I'm beginning to see a trend and beginning to be ashamed of conforming to it. Oh well. I think Dark Eldar, 'cause they torture people for hours. Chaos usually just kills you.

We don't need umpteen threads on who is the most evil. You might as well ask "which is better? Coke or Pepsi?"
Your going to get different answers depending on peoples tastes and its pointless hashing the topic from different points as they are the bleeding same thing said in a different way!

I think the most evil species is the dark eldar.

but the most powerfull of the two are really the force of chaos

Having just read the Horus Heresy novels I'd say Dark Eldar.

Dark Eldar are and were from the beggining plain ole evil. They weren't lured or tricked by Chaos and weren't flawed. They basically screwed, reveled and tortured their way to the birth of Slaanesh without any prompting (unlike the exodites who fled early). Following this they were un-repentant (unlike the craft worlders who changed their ways).

CSM just got duped for the most part -- and were un repentant. I'd say there's legion (and traitor chapter) excepetions though. Like Night Lords seem evil from the start, don't they? Maybe Word Bearers also.
