This is to be a blog on the most recent commission by a customer for the Forgeworld Red Scorpions Vandguard Assault squad.

Details of commission.
5 Assault marines
Seargent with Relic blade adn plasma pistol
4 Vanguard with Storm Shield, Power weapons, and bolt pistols. 2 are modeled holding pistols and 2 with blades as per customer's request.
All models have WYSIWYG grendades and items.


Here's image 1 of the group of marines sans heads and shoulder pads.


Due to the level of detail requested and the fact that Storm Shields and Jump packs can be annoying to work around I poster tacked all the shoulder pads to pins and spiked them in a sponge for ease of painting.


Also because I started the blog after I had commenced and fully assembled the figures I have already finished the heads. Customer wanted yellow ridges on the helms, and the sergeant to have the gold helmet style reminiscent of the Blood Angels. The camera popped the highlight detail a little too much and in real life they are not as sharp as appears on the grey helms.


Shot of the back of the helms. I'm very happy and the only thing I'm going to do is probably do a base color wash to bring down the brow higlights just a tad. I'll also be ading a touch of ard coat to lenses. Also the pipes have been painted and detailed. Highlights are on the tubes on the helmet pipes, but the camera and lighting washed them out completely.

How do you do that gold/yellow colour, seems spot on to me! nice work on the models.

The yellow came out very nice.

Base coat with the GW foundation Iyanden Darksun, Once that's down and smooth coverage. I apply the Vallejo Gold Yellow. Shade the entire area with Gryphon Sepia wash. Go back and with a normal Vallejo Golden yellow start painting up the high areas, as I move into the other highlights I mix Vallejo Gold Yellow and Vallejo Sunblast yellow with a dash of matt varnish to thin it out and smooth it, till finally its mostly Sunblast yellow with matt varnish mix.

A wet pallete is insanely useful for mixing your highlight colors. I highly recommend the pallete from P3.

Quick update, working to get picts of the marines, they are done. Just did not have access to the camera. Customer was very pleased, so hoepfully i will have some updated photos soon.
