Well, St Celestine is what my friend uses. And since she wanders the field unattached to a squad he tends to use a Faith Point a turn to make her 2+ save invulnerable. It's quite frustrating to take her out. And when you do...she Deep Strikes back in next turn.

Of course, I'm not sure how that counts for kill points. Do you get 2 every time she dies?

A Canoness is also a solid and unpleasant choice, with a lot of good War Gear to turn her into a pretty solid character. Plus an additional 2 Faith Points is never a bad thing for a Sisters army.

I personally don't like Inquisitor Lords, but it is a way of getting a Land Raider into a SoB army and with a trio of Guardians they can be quite nasty, and cheapish, assault squad. Or they can go the shooting route with a Mystic and some Multi Melta totting nasties. Personally I'd use the Elite version, because I never have enough minions in a retinue to make a Lord worthwhile, but if you're hurting for Elite slots they're a good choice. And a good way to add an assassin.

The FAQ explains that St Celestine is only worth a kill point if she is off the table when the game ends; if she returned, no kill points are won, no matter how many times she died.

If you are playing straight-Sisters, the Canoness is the only HQ choice to worry about. St Celestine could probably be a decent secondary option, but I personally find a Canoness better value for points --- the Living Saint is gimmicky and has a nasty penalty. There are several different ways to build her, but this is largely dependant on what you want to get out of her, Personally, I use the standard Flying Nun. She hops around the table solo, taking out heavy tanks and ICs with little concern for what happens around her. Never take the Palantine. No matter what, you can always find the 10 points needed for a Canoness, who is vastly superior.

If you want an Inquisitor, still take a Canoness and bring an allied Daemonhunter Inquisitor. They are far more useful than the Witch Hunter ones with access to better equipment and henchmen.

Even my fex runs away from her, except my god fex which uses her to get an extra 6" ahead and hopefully kill her to get a d3 consolidation

I recommend completely forgetting celestine, her Toughness 3 is a real killer for something that high of points.

I think it depends on what your list needs. Build a list with out HQs first. They fill the role you need/are lacking

As good a place to ask this as any - how bad a choice is Lord Karamazov ;p?

He seems fun, but maybe he's too expensive to be useful.

Pretty much, yes. I've never seen anyone field him but with the other three choices fighting for an HQ slot, plus any Daemonhunters you might wanna take as allies, he's not worth the HQ slot. Let alone the points.

I like a Canoness or a palantine with litanies of faith and have them join a unit of 20 sisters. Nothing like 40 rapid firing shots w/ divine guidance...

Er... why the Litanies of Faith? If the squad is that large, they only fail on the roll of a 12, which is insanely poor odds. It is not like the 20 will get there anyway; it will be more like 14 by the time they get in range. Besides, it is not that good anyways:

vs MEQ: 40 shots, 26.67 hits, 13.33 wounds (2.22 AP1), 5.96 dead.

10 Sisters with a Flamer and a Heavy Flamer (assuming 5 hits/template):
20 Bolter Shots and two templates, 23.33 hits, 12.5 wounds (2.08 AP1), 5.56 dead.

20 Sisters with Bolters (incl. Veteran Superior): 234 points.
10 Sisters with two Flamers (incl. Veteran Superior): 142 points.

Even if we add a Rhino with extra armour and smoke, the smaller squad is still cheaper, and far more likely to get there.

First off: I prefer the Han Solo approach to wargaming, ie. NEVER TELL ME THE ODDS!!! Mathhammer sucks the life out of gaming, but thanks.

The Litanies is for if/when you run out of faith when you most need it( it happens) or want to be guaranteed some act at a specific time (and not just Divine guidance) such as an invulnerable save when you need to run that large squad into the range/sights of your opponents nasty guns to get into position, etc.

Secondly, with the abundance of deepstriking, mechanized, flanking stuff, etc. in the game often the enemy comes to you...

It is a great unit to hold an objective or bottleneck and dare opponents to try to come get it.
