Hey all, new to the forum and recently new/returned to Warhammer 40k. I have a few questions and ive been searching the interwebs. I unearthed my old 40k from literally 16 years ago, yes 16. It was a starter set with the old 20 space marines, 20 orks, 40 gretchin set up. I got into it back in the day and then randomly stopped. Was more into painting than playing seeing as in my location it was a very small group of people who were doing it. I also have some Space Wolf Termies, SW Techpriest, SW Standard Bearer from i believe 10/12 years ago. I also have a full squad of Imperial Vallhalan Ice warriors with the mortar squad, flamer, grenade launcher and a captain in black primer. Oh and a unopend SW tactical squad aswell, from about 8 10 years ago. I also have a Predator im assuming mk 1. MY MAIN QUESTION after all that rabble is can i play the predator with 5 ed and should i mod/add bitz or just scrap the pred? I also have some un opend blister packs too from about 10/12 years ago lol. Seems like a decent amount has changed mainly in quality of the plastic models and the ridiculous amount of tanks available because of apoc. Basically i have a pile of marines and have started painting again.
Ive bought the black reach set, the battleforce set, maggus, and the chapter masters. I plan on getting a few transports and such and was just wondering about tanks and what i should go with.
Sorry if it seems a little rambley. Looking for guidance

I think the pred should be fine. Mine's an old skool one too, and from what I can tell the weapon loads haven't changed.

Your old predator will be fine in 5th edition - a bit old fashioned but then again I still use old marines for my BT and no one says anything.
I will say that it will look very different from the rest of your vehicles that you got in the battleforce set however that is up to you. If you can live with it then go for it.
It may be worth considering playing SW as they are rumoured to have a new codex coming out in the not too distant future as well as you having a lot of the mini's.
Hope this helps.

With a little creative converting that old predator can look as cool as the current model.
Here is my converted RT era Pred I still use.

I still use those same marines from the 2nd ed starter set.
and i also still use the MK1 pred/rhino/whirlwind.
they have not changed the weapon loadouts, so yes, you can still use them.
I recommend getting AOBR for the rulebook, marines, and dreadnought, the models are much higher quality than the 2nd edition starter set.
then purchase the space marine codex, you can contact GW canada to get the Space Wolf codex for free in PDF form.
this will get you a solid army to start with, the rule book, and you will have 3 different armies you can field (space wolves, space marines, and orks, obviously)

THE HORUS HERESY: Emprah: Hours, go reconquer the galaxy so there can be a new golden age. Horus: But I should be Emprah, bawwwwww! Emprah: Magnus, stop it with the sorcery. Magnus: But I know what's best, bawwwwww! Emprah: Horus, tell Russ to bring Magnus to me because I said so. Horus: Emprah wants you to kill Magnus because he said so. Russ: Fine. Emprah's always right. Plus Ole Red has already been denounced as a traitor and I never liked him anyway. Russ: You're about to die, cyclops! Magnus: O noes! Tzeentch, I choose you! Bawwwww! Russ: Ah well. Now to go kill Horus. Russ: Rowboat, how have you not been doing anything? Guilliman: . . . I've been writing a book. Russ: Sigh. Let's go. Guilliman: And I fought the Word Bearers! Horus: Oh shi--Spess Puppies a'comin? Abbadon: And the Ultramarines, sir. Horus: Who? Anyway, this looks bad. *enter Sanguinis* What are you doing here? Come to join me? Sanguinius: *throws self on Horus's power claws* Alas, I am undone! When you play Castlevania, remember me! *enter Emprah* Emprah: Horus! So my favorite son killed my favorite daughter! Horus: What about the Lion? Emprah: Never liked her. Horus: No one does. Now prepare to die! *mortally wounds Emprah*Emprah: Au contraire, you dick. *kills Horus* Dorn: Okay, now I just plug this into this and . . . okay, it works! Emprah? Hellooooo? Jonson: I did nothing! Guilliman: I did more nothing that you! Jonson: Nuh-uh. I was the most worthless! Guilliman: Have you read my book? Dorn: No one likes that book. Khan: C'mon guys. It's not that bad. Dorn: I guess not. Russ: You all suck. Ima go bring the Emprah back to life.

Those are the second edition predator metal sponsons. They can be found cheaply on Ebay.

Honestly, I think the original pred is cool because it's one of the few "realistic" tanks that GW has made. The rounded turret was actually a pretty big design break-through in WWII tanks.
However, the original sponsons are pretty crappy, the metal sponsons from the later tank look better... but then the turret looks like crap.
Honestly that picture posted above is one of the cooler preds I've seen because it combines the good elements of both kits. Good job.

Thanks a lot!
I'm currently building another kit bashed SW pred with the RT Pred turret, the 2nd ed metal sponsons, on the new Mk II Rhino hull.

go ahead and bring it into the game. not just the matter about its height, but the style that would make your army looks good and envy from your opportant.

That predator looks excellent, BDJV. Well converted and painted.
And to the original poster, I'd wait until the new wolves codex comes out to make a choice. Updated wolves could be a force to be reckoned with
