Hey folks! I'm getting back into WH40K after a long time out. I did, however, start aeons ago in the good old Rogue Trader days. I still have my cardboard cut-out Ork Dreadnaught somewhere and my Foot of Gork template.

At any rate, I'm wondering what to do with my old Orks. I have a whole lot of the old Ork Space Pirates models from the 80's and a bunch of Goff orks from the 2nd ed box set. Picured here are those orks next to a new style ork and it's pretty clear to see the new ones are taller and bigger. In fact, they are about half a head taller than my 2nd ed Goffs and nearly a full head taller than my Rogue Trader space orks.

I thought maybe Grots? But they are a little big for grots... or are they? I think the Space ORks look wacky and puny enough to be grots... maybe...

What have others done with their old timers? Sent them to Shady Pinez Retiremn't Shack? Turned they into Orkylant Green? I would love to hear for ideas becuase I either have none or just dont' like the ones I do have.

P.S. Sorry for the blur. I tried to get as close as possible so you could see the hieght difference as best as possible but lost focus in that process.

P.S.S. The reason for two of the Rogue Trader orks next to modern orks is to show some moderns may be as tall, but are much bulkier still.

I still use mine. If you put them into their own units it's not bad at all. You can also use the new orks as nobz for the old orks. Or you could just assume that not everybody is the same height in the ork forces.... kinda like real life.

The age of man is over; the time of the Ork has come.

I faced the same dilemma, as I just got back into 40K after a 5-year absence. I loved my old Ork Raiders (the painted ones got sold off with the old army years ago). I still have about 2 pounds of unpainted lead Ork Raiders and a few multi-piece Orks from 2nd edition that never made it into the old army (including some Genestealer Cult Orks and some Chaos Orks). I never did like the single piece starter set plastic Goffs and Grots, so good riddance to them. So, what to do?

Well, the Raider Orks are 20 years old, and never got painted. The new Orks are bigger, plastic, pretty cheap, and look awesome. That’s a no brainer. Grots are smaller than Raiders, and I don’t use them anyway. I can’t really think of anything to do with the old Orks, except that I use multi-piece ones for looted tank crew. Bottom line, forget about them for now and go with the new stuff. You’ll be glad you did, I am. Your 20 year-old Ork Raiders are not painted, like mine. There’s no hurry to change that now.

I use a full mob of old Goffs for one simplicity. The models are there, they'll never get mixed up with my newer mobz and they make a great separator when I'm doing a Green Tide list.

They'll probably be replaced eventually, but the models are still usable and I'm not in a big rush.

I used one for a warboss/nob.

They are most certainly usable.

"I.. I know my time has come" Tethesis said with a gasp, a torrent of blood flowing from his lips.
"No! Hang on brother!!" Altharius could feel the warmth slip away from his dear sibling's hands

Tethesis's reached out his bloodied arm to Altharius's face.
"I..I have one final request"
Altharius leaned close to listen, tears welling in his once bright eyes.
"make sure th..they put my soulstone in a tank... it'll be... real fethin' cool"
"Yes, you're gonna be the most fethin' cool tank!!" burning hot tears streaked down Altharius's face, as he held his brother's soul in his grasp.

Yeah - as long as you put 'em in their own mobz, they don't look funny...

Alles klar, eh, Kommissar?
