This is very quick and easy, I painted the base in less than 20 minutes because of drying time, and I sculpted it in 5. I didn't spend much time painting because I wanted to quickly show the blood effect. Without further rambling, here it is. Enjoy!

First, get model magic/gs, a base, and sculpting tools, in my case a knife and a pin.

Next, flatten the gs on the base.

Use water and your finger to smooth out the finger prints.

Use the knife to make vertical slits, depending on how wide you want the cobblestone to be.

Make horizontal slits to make the stones. You can make them random or sequenced.

Use the pin to make cracks in the stone.
This step is optional, but get a base with large grains of sand on it and press lightly on it on the cobblestone. This allows the stone to be drybrushed.

Prime black.

Wash with shadow grey.

Drybrush with codex grey.

Drybrush with fortress grey.

Wash with shadow grey.

Thin wash of chaos black.

This is how to get good looking cobblestone easily.
If you want blood effects read on.
First stipple a little scab red on the base.

Stipple blood red in 1 or 2 small places.

Put gloss varnish where the blood red is.

This is a quick paint. If you want to paint in more detail, go ahead, it will work on your new homemade cobblestone!
I have included some pictures of a base with cobblestone on cork in lava to make it look crumbling. I hope this tutorial helped!

THe eldar base was the best example I had. You can also make it so it is smooth. It can be black and white tiles.

Seconded. Didn't see that last pic coming! Looks great, though. Always on the lookout for more sculpting tips (because I suck at it)!

Because everyone hates Eldar? I mean, don't Eldar players even secretly hate themselves for playing them? I think it's a requirement, because I'm pretty sure that the Eldar hate themselves.

That is a handy effect... I might have to use it when I get around to basing my Sisters instead of buying pre-made bases.

I can.

"I.. I know my time has come" Tethesis said with a gasp, a torrent of blood flowing from his lips.
"No! Hang on brother!!" Altharius could feel the warmth slip away from his dear sibling's hands

Tethesis's reached out his bloodied arm to Altharius's face.
"I..I have one final request"
Altharius leaned close to listen, tears welling in his once bright eyes.
"make sure th..they put my soulstone in a tank... it'll be... real fethin' cool"
"Yes, you're gonna be the most fethin' cool tank!!" burning hot tears streaked down Altharius's face, as he held his brother's soul in his grasp.

I play eldar. It was just the only model that had a torso that I hadn't used. Thanks for the compliment.
