Hi.
I seem to be really bad at naming stuff, anyway could someone help me name my Dreadnoughts. It doesn't need to be actual names for them, but tips about naming Dreadnoughts would be good. Also, here are some pictures of them. Thanks in advance, hopefully I won't need help naming stuff in the future XD
Also, I know I have to fix up the 2 on the green one, I just noticed it after uploading the image >_>

Most dreads just retain their regular names though like Bjorn the Fell-Handed
For something different you could always name them like British warships, Indomitable, Invincible, Indefatigable, etc.

I named my venerable dread brother Olorin.
This was (in 4th ed) after he, on his own, held up the entire tyranid assault for three turns. This included a brood of genestealers, a carnifex, a hive tyrant and a brood of gaunts.
As he was Venerable I got to reroll all penetrating hits and the way it worked, I basically decided when he died,
It frustrated my opponent no end.
THOU SHALT NOT PASS!
Hence Olorin (LOTR) reference.

Thanks everyone for all the help and suggestions so far. Also naming the Dreadnoughts the way Grimhowl suggested sounds good.

The red one did that, but it was an entire Necron army this was back when the army was little more than just a battle force same as the Necron army. That was a good three player game, Space Marines vs Space Marines while the Dreadnought fought off the Necrons by itself XD
Also it recently did the exact same thing, but the Hive Tyrant ripped it apart. It only lasted 2 turns though.

Don't have a name for the boss yet, at the moment I'm thinking of replacing the Captain and Command Squad with a Master of the Forge (I can play a combination of six Dreadnoughts and Ironclad Dreadnoughts this way if I want XD) and a small group of servitors. I just have to put together the Techmarine and servitors I've brought for this.
The rest of the army is
Tactical Squad 1 - 10 man squad one marine has a plasma gun.
Tactical Squad 2 - 10 man squad one marine has a flamer and one has a missile launcher.
Tactical Squad 3 - 10 man squad one marine has a plasma gun and one has a missile launcher.
Scout squad - 5 man sniper squad one has a missile launcher.
Normal ranged terminators 5 man squad, no special weapons.
1 Rhino, 1 Vindicator and those Dreadnoughts
Here is a picture from before the Dreadnoughts were repainted.

My BT dreadnought is now unofficially named "gimpy" because he took a nasty rokkit launcha hit before he accounted for a single ork. I think it's because he's the AoBR dread. Maybe crappy performance comes from crappy models.

Well, dreadnaughts are named after the fallen Space Marines inside.
I say name them after your friends.
Alternatively, you can name them after wartime generals in history: Eisenhower, Rommel, Sherman, Octavian, Cornwallace, whatever!

Whenever I get a new character model for my Spess Mehrens, I name one of my spare venerable dreads after an older one to explain where he went. I do the same if one of my heroes dies several times.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

Thanks for these new suggestions and tips. I have just finished making the Master of the Forge and that's my current chapter leader now. I might name them in some way that reflects this. I could have named one of them after the captain, but he doesn't have a name and took down the avatar without taking any wounds in the last game I used him. So I don't think that one should be considered dead. But, for the red one I'm going to try to come up with a name that reflects how well it seems to go in most games, maybe something that reflects how it went in that Space Marine vs Space Marine vs Necron battle I mentioned before.

I made up some fluff and a naming theme for my Chapter.
All of the characters are named after metal musicians. The Chapter itself, The Secret Of Steel is named after a song.
From there on it wasn't all that hard to come up with dozens of names (I have names for an entire legion in the back of my head)
Sgts are singers, Dreadnoughts drummers, special characters can be just about anything as long as it sounds cool (librarian's name is Lord Weird Slough Feg, for instance)
If you get a theme like this, you'll find it very easy to name your Dreads, and your Characters.
I'm struggling a bit to find a theme for my IG army I've got coming up. I want to go in a different direction for that one.
