Well that really depends on who they fight and if the weapon has any segnificince and the chapter. WHat i mean by the chapter is soem chapters might say that sertain captain of certain companys use a weapon and if the weapon has and attatchment to the captain and also they may pick up somthing on the battle feild from a soldier like if a tank is comign he may borrow a missle laucher to dispatch it agian it all depends.

Not sure what you are asking exactly?

There are choices in the SM Codex.....

Uriel Ventris doesn't use a hammer, he's the first one that springs to mind but I'm sure there are others. Why do you think they all use hammers?

Space marine captains have access to the full chapter armoury. They may, as said above, carry a weapon attached to the post of captain or the company, but will change weapon before during and after the weapon should they wish to. They train extensively in the use of all weapons.

I'd say yes.

A Space Marine Captain would use the same weapon, as they have used the same weapon for thousands of years. Eventually, a bond forms between warrior and weapon, which can only be broken in death.

lol....

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

I'd say that what weapon a captain carrys is up to him. it's his personal preference, but when he finds a weapon he really likes he will probably stick with it.

Looking at the fluff we have, most captians seem to eather:
a) develop preferance for a particular weapon set, and will only change it if a mission makes it totaly inpractical. (Ok, i'll take a thunderhammer instead of a power sword to attack this titan legion)
b) The weapons they carry develop religious signifigance or become symbols of office, like the gloves of ultramar. These they'll take on all missions, irrespective of their utility on said mission. Though they'll likely take backup eqiupment as well.

Not many seem willing to totaly refit their armory based on what the tactical situation is at that time.

I think that about covers it. For now.
