I played against a Dark Eldar player a couple of weeks ago (I won just!), and after playing decided to pick up the codex from feebay it arrived this morning looking through it I can find no mention of the 'in close combat with wyches you are at half weapon skill' did I get the wrong edition of the codex? or have I missed the rule?

There are two versions of the Dark Eldar codex. One has `Second Edition' plastered across the front cover. If yours does not have it, you have the out of date one.

Hive Fleet Viracocha, 3,673pts

You need also the FAQs and Errata.

WoW - forget the codex - you're better off just printing out the errata. The Codex is 10+ years old . . .

Bah, nonsense. The copyright on the codex is 2001, although since the current printing incorporates changes published in the 2004 Chapter Approved, it's only actually between five and eight years old.

Although the miniatures are a completely different matter.

In the revised codex, instead of buying specific wych weapons for a few squad members, you just pay +1 pt per squad member and the squad counts as having wych weapons which gives the entire squad two advantages: If the target's base S is less than 6, their weapon skill gets halved (rounding up). And if the anybody has 2 cc weapons, they are not allowed the +1A bonus normally afforded thereby.

You can't spell 'slaughter' without 'laughter'.
By the time they scream... It's too late.

Yeah, Wyches have some neat abilities but they are very vulnerable and thus need protection.
Either mount them in a Raider or leave them out of a WWP deployed close to the enemy.
