Is it possible to use a whirlwind in a BT army?

Is it in the BT codex? If yes, then yes, if no, then no.

Haha! Yeah I checked that - it's not in there. Why on earth not? I assume it's intentional but there's no explanation as to why (no sergeants in Tactical Squads IS explained).
It seems weird - don't understand it.

No, It's not in their codex.
It's cool though, your codex will probably be rewritten probably in the next year.
You have the vindicator instead of the whirlwind I'd make use of that for horde armies.

From memory, they explained it in the designer's notes when the codex was released. It was ( IIRC) to help promote the idea that BTs are primarily an assault army. The Whirlwind, with its inherent sitbackandpoundthemfromafar-ishness didn't really fit with that, so they lost it.

Oh - I have the most recent edition of the BT Codex - have there been other versions? Not played 40k for 15 years!
Thanks for your help.
