Ok so finally getting around to working on my Nurgle Marines and I was wondering what is better:

Flamer- Template weapon but seems like its really a one time use item

Melta- Good for Tank Busting but to me Tank Hunting with troops seems kinda silly

Plasma Gun- Dont know a lot about them but they seem ok.

Thoughts?

I'd say the choice boils down to whether you're using them as long range dakka or using them farther up the field.

At long range, back field objective squatting, I'd say plasma guns, since FNP helps negate the Gets Hot rule and the extra range will help from the backfield.

In a more offensive role or if you're lacking in anti-tank, go with the meltas.

That be my $0.02.

I would say good ol plasma death. Unless you don't have any other means of dealing with tanks then why not?

It depends totally on their intended use as most have said. Mech Marines with Melta are excellent, For static foot objective holders Plasma, for troops intended to assault enemy infantry flamers.

Feel No Pain won't negate Gets Hot! but it will make it less likely for you to lose the Fireman to a bad roll. Plasma is good for shooting light vehicles and heavy troops.

Melta is good for shooting heavy vehicles, and combine well with Flamethrowers if you have other squads with the same Melta/Flame combination. If so, then it builds redundancy into the army, and having two assault weapons means that one of them won't get wasted if you decide to charge. Otherwise it's better to double up on Melta Guns to increase your chance of a kill.

Flamethrowers are good for counter-charge, and to shoot up enemy hordes in combination with a Rhino and the Plague Marine bolters. Also they're very inexpensive.

Basically you need to evaluate whether the special weapons you take in a Plague Marine squad complement other parts of your army, provide redundancy for other parts, and either specialize or remain flexible enough handle a variety of battlefield encounters.

I use two plasmaguns in each 7-man Plaguemarine squad. Sure as hell, even with FNP I'll end up losing a trooper or two to "gets hot" each game...

The meltas end up in a dedicated Havoc squad mounted in a Rhino. Drive up, jump out, pop enemy vehicle.

As for flamers, I've got a unit with two flamers accompanying my Sorceror, who also has a flamer-like psychic power. They, too, are mounted in a Rhino for fun drive-by flamey-ness.

The one bit of advice I'd give you is to not "mix" your special weapons in your Plaguemarine squads - make 'em two flamers, two meltaguns, or two plasmaguns so you won't be stuck between assault and rapid fire weapons, or between one special weapon that's good for troop shootyness and one for vehicle shootyness.

Alles klar, eh, Kommissar?

Good points all thanks. I think I am going to try a unit with a double of all 3 and put them to their specific tasks and see which one fairs best!

7 Plague Marines take 2 Plasmas.

The FNP is nice, except when it fails.

I'm a plasma nut, even on my IG infantry squads. I have a solid gunline of Lascannon/Plasma gun squads. None of the MEQ players play me anymore.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

I use a mix of all 3 as each has a specialized role, but I favor melta.

7 or 8 Plague Marines w/ two Melta's and a Power Fist in a Rhino. You're welcome.

Power Fist isn't really needed at this point. I run 3 units of 5 PMs with 2 Meltas in Rhinos in my mechanized Lash build and they do great things for me.

My vote is for the flamer. It gives you more dice to roll.

Ok that brings up another question is the power sword better than the power fist? Since the champs come with plague swords that are no longer really plague swords I was just going to call em power swords.
