Hey folks...

So I'm sitting here mulling over my army list (Orks) for 'Ard Boyz, and I got to thinking - what happens when I show up with my army list and there's a house rule for or against certain things that aren't clarified in the rules and don't have an FAQ? Deff Rollas? Valkryies?

If I have Deff Rollas on my battlewagons with the intent of that being a major part of my anti-tank and I show up to the tournament and they don't allow it....retool my list on the spot? I've called ahead to my FLGS asking for advanced clarification on at least the Deff Rolla so that they can decide in advance what to do. I mailed the owner page numbers and quotes for the relevant rules and stuff so that he can read it and make a call; that way I can either include them in my list or take them out; given how mechanized everyone is running this year, it will make a SERIOUS impact on how I play.

What about if I make it to regionals? Semi-finals? Baltimore? How are the unclear things handled?

You are doing what you should do. Call in advance (or email) and get clarification beforehand.

Changing lists on the spot may prove difficult as even the Ard Boyz is WYSIWYG.

I called all stores I could potentially end up playing at. They each seem to have a GW rep who they're going to for rules questions - I'm not sure if this rep is the same person, or what, but if GW is on the ball, this means that whatever rules you check through this rep will be the same at locals, regionals and finals.

Well, I'll be 95% WYSIWYG. There's a few things I can't do though...

1. Deff Rollas. GW hasn't released a Deff Rolla model yet, so I'm going to pretend that my big gigantic armor plate on the front of my BW is a Deff Rolla until they put something out I can buy.

2. Grotzookas. Killa Kans don't have a model for Grotzookas, and I just bought three, so I'm going to stick a Big shoota or something on there and call it a Grotzooka. Not my fault that they haven't put out a model for it.

I wish I had the imagination to convert and customize some of the stuff that people do, but my imagination in that respect is limited, and my artistic ability is pretty much nil. :(

Grotzooka Idea's:
-Tau Missile Pods, Just ork them up a bit
-Chaos Havoc Launcher
-2 Cut down IG mortars glued together w/missile tip sticking out the end

Def Rolla:
-I used an IG Chimera dozer blade. You can also use the siege shield from a Vindicator. Just put a whole bunch of nasty heavy looking blades on it and it's perfect.

As for the thread on a whole your doing everything you can. Anything you have a question about before hand have the TO make the call and then bring it so he can't change his mind. gotta say that I didn't run into any rules issues against my opponents last year and I was playing halfway across the country from where I normally do. But it never hurts to cover all your bases

1. Replace the front wheels with tank traps, or anything Deff-looking. Since you don't have to paint for 'Ard Boyz, this takes about 15 seconds.

2. Snip the tubular half of the Skorcha bit that comes with Killa Kan models and glue on an IG mortar in it's place. Looks suitably large-bored enough to be considered a 'zooka. Takes about 1 minute.

As I play Speed Freekz, I'm going to be getting a lot of Wrekkin' Ballz; since I don't intend to use them on my Trukkz and wagons, I'm thinking of connecting a bunch of them together in a row and making some kind of assembly to attach it to a Battlewagon. Deff Wrekkaz!

Anyone with a little effort can convert. That is part of the hobby. The Deff Rolla issue hasn't stopped many Ork players. Nearly every list I face (and use myself) that has a Battlewagon has some type of Deff Rolla on it. As long as your opponent can look on the table and tell what they are up against, that will suffice.

Also, this can become a detriment if you are a tourney player. Many tourneys require WYSIWYG. I've participated in several tourneys where you can lose points for not having WYSIWYG in the army painting section. This may also bleed over into Sportsmanship in some arenas.

Oh, I still have Deff Rollas and Grotzookas.

Given that there is no model for them, its been left up to me to decide what they look like. My Deff Rolla looks suspiciously like a gigantic armor plate hinged on the front of a Battlewagon, and my grotzookas are either going to be exhaust pipes for an Ork Trukk, or something. I was going to use the Zzap gun from the battlewagon kits to make grotzookas, but I don't know if I'd rather turn them into Deffguns for my Lootas.

I'll sort something out, but I'm not trying to make a PVC pipe deff rolla, or using a hair brush or anything.
