I recently have been looking into some rule modifications to adapt to a smaller Rogue Trader-esque type of game. Why, you ask? Well, maybe a little bit of nostalgia but actually trying to figure a way to get the family involved (we have always gamed together on some level e.g. D&D, Risk, Axis&Allies, homemade games etc.) with less effort on their/my part since I may have to do most of the modeling. I would like to do this using 5th Edition rules for the most part.

I found Cityfight on my shelf and I still have my old Rogue Trader book. I have several 2nd Edition books but I can't find the 2nd Edition Rulebook.

Anyway, I have some ideas on how to do it but before I get too into this I wanted to put a few questions out there:

1.) I have the Cityfight book but have never read it (I know, don't ask). How relevant is it? Did it work well or was it a failure?

2.) Barring codex alterations/simplification, do others feel simplified 5th Edition rules are suited to smaller games?

3.) Is this something others would be interested in (i.e. you all) as a form of 'house rules' for smaller, faster games?

4.) Any general thoughts, comments, comparisons to other rule sets?

Why not just use the Kill team force build rules/etc. with 5th edition rules? OR barring that use the Necromunda rules engine (based on 2nd edition anyways).

If you mean the chapter Organising A Battle I'm looking at simplifying 5th Edition to make it easier for them to get into not to mention 500 point games under 5th Edition aren't really balanced . Are the Necromunda rules solid (I don't own a copy but yes I am looking for that kind of game) and relatively simple? Thanks for the comment, though, Necromunda may be a good place to start. I was not familiar with that game so I missed that one.

Honestly the Necromunda rules are pretty strait forward. If you goto the GW website, under the specialist section, youll find the necromunda game. In thee, you can download the whole rules book for free. Read it a few times, and youll realize its basically a strait forward game. Itd be super easy to leave some of the rules out and make it easier for your family to learn.

Well, I'm both embarrassed and relieved I completely overlooked Necromunda. Admittedly, years ago I was never interested and hence never considered it now. These rules could make my task much easier. Well, I guess this thread accomplished something!

Hey no problem. And dont worry, I too overlooked the game. I heard about it, thought, MEH, and went on my merry way. Luckily not long ago, I was bored out of my mind and thought "oh what the hell Ill give it a read through"

Necromunda rules are very good.
And a great place to start for model based small games.

Also, if you just use the game mechanics and put together generic stat lines (like clone stat guardsmen, genestealers, ala 40k) you can keep a good play pace.
