According to the current rules, you can use miniatures from the Daemonhuneter or Witchhunters codexes in your IG army. The details for this are in the DH and WH codexes.

However, you can't have both in the same army.

And who knows when one of these codexes will be replaced?

That is not correct. Nothing forbids you from using allies from both Demonhunters and Witch Hunters in your Imperial Guard army. Also, more specifically, there are no rules forbidding the use of Grey Knights and Sisters of Battle as allies in your Imperial Guard army.

If you're adding Sisters, good units are: tooled up Cannoness, Sisters of Battle troop squads.

If you're adding Grey Knights, stick with the Terminators, do not use Power Armored Grey Knight troops, sisters are better for the points.

Er, requires 1 HQ and 1 Troop to take allies, doesnt it?

I never do it, so may well be wrong, mind.

But if it does, your FOC prevents multiple allies due to lack of HQ space.

I collect:
Guard - 2k of mostly infantry
DA - 2k of deathwing, 2k of other bits (no vehicles)
Sisters - mostly converted/proxy because I'm waiting for therange to go plastic.
Tau - 2k with no riptides because I can.

All required FOC slots must be filled by the parent army. This means one HQ and two Troops in most cases, but would be a little different for Planetstrike.

EDIT: PS You do not have to take an allied HQ if you do not want to. Allies are 0-1 HQ, 0-1 Elite, 0-2 Troops and 0-1 Fast Attack.

And you can have that list (except for the HQ, of course) from each ally. So an HQ from one of them, an Elite from each of them, up to 2 Troops from each of them, and 1 Fast from each of them. Ain't really an IG army any more, but it's legal.

The person was mistaken, you can have both. In fact you can end up with more points spent on INQ units than guard units.

WH and DH books are most likely not going to be replaced any time soon. If they do its going to be a combined book most likely. Don't know how that would work out, ought to be interesting.

Ok, so I have a question about having SOB with the IG. I know you have to field 1 HQ and 2 Troops from the parent army, but could you have 2 HQs from IG and 1 from SOB? I know that the FOC states that 2 HQs is max, but the witch hunters state that 0-1 HQs may be chosen to accompany an IG force. I am apt to say no, but I thought I would ask the community....

Example legal Guard list:

HQ:
Guard Command Section
SoB Cannoness

Elite:
GK Terminator Squad
Sly Marbo
Sister Repentia unit (they are Elite right?)

Troops:
Infantry Platoon
Veterans
Grey Knight Squad
Grey Knight Squad
Sisters of Battle Squad
Sisters of Battle Squad

Fast Attack:
GK Teleport Attack Squad
SoB Seraphim Squad
Valkyrie Squadron

Heavy Support:
Basilisk Squadron
Grey Knight Purgation Squad
Penitent Engine Squadron

Now, some of the units above you'd never actually take (Repentia, Penitent Engines Ogryn, etc.) but it's to show how you can mix'n'match the lists together.

I've been on the wrong end of engines that advanced behind rhinos. Well... one of them made it. And proceeded to annhiliate a guard squad a turn until it caught a Leman Rus shell to the face.

Meanwhile, said Leman Rus was NOT pounding on those advancing sisters who's transports i'd popped, or those Exorcists. Which are a pain.

Afraid not.

The Errata for the DH codex says "Daemonhunters may not ally with any detachment that uses any other kind of ally".

Therefore, DH or WH, not both

Sorry you're wrong. Keep reading the FAQ under the Allies section:

Q. Can Daemonhunters be taken as allies in an
army that also has Witch Hunter allies?
A. Yes, Daemonhunter and Witch Hunter units
may both be taken as allies in the same army.

Edit: Oh and welcome to Dakka, in the future please try to verify your information before posting.

Ok here is one for ya'll in the DH Faq Stern does not take up an HQ slot. Therefore if you have an army of 1500 points or more you could technically take 2 other HQ's plus Stern and a retinue of GK Terminators.

Ah! Got confused because the reverse is true (ie. you can take Russes in a DH/WH army).

That's a... creative interpretation of that question. Not correct, but certainly creative.

The question asks whether Stern and Coteaz count towards the 0-1 limits of their respective HQ choices (Inquisitor Lord & GK Hero). Normally Inquisitor Lords and GK Heroes are 0-1 (each). As the answer to this question is no, you could take Stern and a Brother-Captain, or Coteaz and and Inquisitor Lord.

They still take up HQ slots.

Yes Repentia are Elite.

Other interresting things to consider is an Inquisitor Lord HQ and an Assassin of your choice as Elite (since you need the inquisitor to pick the assassin) and depending on your playstyle, a Dominion squad instead of a serpahim squad can be fun, especially if you get them in an Immolator (which is normally heavy and you can't take a heavy choice but Dominion is fast attack and must have a transport...)

The list wasn't meant to represent something you'd actually take, it was just to show how the allies can be used with all the slots on the FOC (except HS, as I've now been told).
