So my FLGS held a 'Ard Boyz tournament this week, and one of my opponents was a 14 year old kid, on top of him cheating dice rolls which i just left fly because I lost the interest in correcting him constantly. He lied about the number of kill points I got against him in our scenario....

At the time the numbers seemed wrong but we were out of time and had to rush to our next tables and opponents it wasn't until I made it home and did the math my self that I found out that he had not calculated the points correctly. This was not an over sight either because the number he gave me wasn't possible considering the units I had wiped out.

I want to handle this tactfully but I am unsure how to approach this, had it been a friendly game I really probably wouldn't care. However, I cannot keep allowing him to cheat other wise he will keep doing it and thats not a good principle to set for him.

What should I do????

Tell him he is a cheating scumbag, and that if he does it again, or you see him doing it again, you will publicly humiliate him.

That stops them either cheating (Good Result) or stops them coming to the club (better result, once a cheater, always a cheater.)

So long as this was deliberate cheating, if this was some newbie being an idiot then try and correct him.

Unfortunately I can't call him out like that as he is so young, all he has to do is whine and cry to mommy and daddy and I will be out of a Gaming club more than likely (However, I do have the proof that he cheated so publicly humiliating wouldn't be hard).

I think you're right to an extent but I think he is young enough that if properly influenced he might turn around, or maybe I give him too much credit.

Unfortunately this kid has a long history of fudging rolls....

I normally avoid playing him for the reason I am either too nice and/or apathetic to try and deal with it, I am assuming the later is the case.

Well, go the passive aggressive route. Just say calmly "Ok, look, I know and you know, you cheat. I will play with you, but I know you cheat, so don't cheat. If you cheat, I won't ever play with you again." Get everyone to do it, and eventually either he stops cheating, or has noone to play with.

I like this idea much better, also I do plan on bring it up to our club president as this kid will be representing our club at the 'Ard Boyz semi finals or w/e. If he is representing us and gets caught, which at a GW official event and more competitive players present he will get caught and humiliated as well as being shown the door.

Passive-aggressiveness is the way to go.
Dont play him and tell no one else 2 either. work before when i played yu-gi-oh. he will end up going either way.
Or something else we also did. every one knew this kid cheated so we set him up a game with someone who didnt know but didnt take to kindly to it(he was also very Big and violent) and you can piece together the rest. he never cheated again.
EDIT: dangit gwar you posted that while i was still typing and beat me to the punch.

He killed him?

If he's 14, confronting him on the provable cheating should be enough to stop him from doing it in the future. But i wouldn't have a problem with telling the club organizer either. The more people that tell him the better.

From England. Living in Shanghai

You have to confront him. If you are worried about your own reputation being sullied then just do it privately and make the threat that you know he cheats. Nothing sinister, just a simple "you now know that I know" sort of thing.

Of course, if he has a long history of cheating and you knew about it it's also partially your fault. You could taken precautions such as setting up a counter for your kill points, or asking him to collect his dice more slowly after he rolled to give you a chance to see them. If he continues to remove them too quickly you can get a judge to help you out.

Just my 2 cents.

Good luck

If you're not going to confront him about the cheating, find a gaming club that doesn't suck so much.

I contacted both the TO and my gaming club president and they are going to assess what needs to be done.

I think this is fortunate for me as it seems like I get to avoid the "your a little cheating donkey-cave" speech.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

Whenever he goes to roll stand behind him and put your hand on his shoulder and kind of just massage it a little bit.

He will never come to the store again.

There is nothing illegal about doing that. It just makes most guys / men very uncomfortable to have their shoulder touched and massaged by another guy.

Has anybody actually talked directly to the kid and layed out what he did that constitutes cheating? Before you elevate it, or talk to others, you should go directly to the source. He should know better, but maybe he doesn't...or just never got called on it before.

If he doesn't want to change his ways, then when he asks for a game, look him in the eyes and say "No, I don't play cheaters. Would you like me to show you a quick demo of the correct way to play?".

Yes I have called him on his dice rolling a number of times, as well as saying certain models have wargear when he did not pay the points for it.

Every time when called on it he basically throws a hissy fit, I am an adult and I really don;t have the patience to be dealing with kids like him the other 4 kids his age that play at the club are great players and very mature.

I've never tolerated it... I agree with Gwar on not going passive-aggressive route. There were several little kids that I've played with and I've handled all of them the same. I've used the open and honest approach but I tend to get very close to them and look them directly in the eye without blinking or letting them move away from me.

Here's what I do if they continue: Focus on the game and tell them to just fix their 'mistakes' without even acknowledging the cheating. If those people don't get the reaction they want they'll get frustrated, which is lovely. It's awesome to see cheaters frustrated because then they lose concentration, which makes an honest man out of anyone.

Tired of reading new rulebooks... Just wanting to play.
