So I've got an extra cruiser, unassembled, and I'm trying to figure out which battlecruiser to assemble. The Armaggedon looks good on paper, but I'm afraid it's a gimmick, as just about everyone gets a Mars, or barring that, an Overlord. What does everyone else think, though? Is an Armaggedon worth it?

Its about six one way, half dozen the other.

The Armageddon is a solid gunline ship. If you're looking to anchor your cruisers around it, its got the hitting power for that. The Mars' ordnance and Nova cannon makes it want to stand off for longer, and the Overlord kind of falls in the middle.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

The Overlord does things that need doing, namely range 60 batteries. This is helpful against Eldar.

I like the Mars but you can duplicate anything it can do with other cruisers with far greater efficiency. nova cannon armed Lunar or Dominator backed up by a Dictator makes a better pairing than Mars plus cruiser of choice.

The Armageddon works because it has lots of concentrated lances with more range than usual for them. Not a bad option all told, way superior to the Gothic even for 65pts more.

I would go for an Armageddon first, no question, as it has the berst balance of firepower and range. the Overlord provides excellent reach but limited firepower. The Mars is just a gimic, not a bad ship but something I would reserve for a backstop unit in a much larger fleet.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.

But keep in mind the Armageddon is not in every fleet list available. You need to stick to Battlefleet Armageddon for easiest access. With reserve rules you may include them into a Gothic list though.

The Overlord is poo. The Mars is good. The Armageddon is okay with Lunars.

Well, lots of different answers on this one! I'll play some test games this week with the models I have and see how it goes, with the understanding that only fighting Chaos and IN with my IN test fleet won't be a complete sampling, but it should be honest enough.

Mars should always be your first and second choice, they really are that good.

I use to have 2 Mars and an Overlord for my BC's and they worked fine.

Probably Nurgle, Africa has the lock on that.

I use Zap Brannigan's art of war and try to jam enough wreckage in their main cannon so it won't work.
