Subject: Soviet FoW question

I've recently been gifted a substantial (I think) chuck of Soviet FoW. However, I'm not sure if it's enough for a complete army. Here's what I have
1. God of War Artillery box
2. Engineer-Sapper Battalion box
3. Udarny Strelkovy Battalion box
4. IS-2 Battalion box (five tanks)
5. Il-2 box (three planes)
6. Strelkovy platoon blister
I think I have to get a battalion HQ, right? What else do I need for a Late period army? I have the Fortress Europe intelligence book ordered but I don't have it yet. Any help is appreciated.

I may be wrong but I think both of the battalion boxes have HQ models...
Anyway, you certainly have enough to play some good games. I would not buy a thing until you get in some games and get a feel for what you are missing.
That's a really nice gift!!!!

That's an excellent start and should be plenty to begin building your army with. As beefHeart said, you'll have enough minis with the two battalion boxes to build a Battalion HQ.
You won't need anything else to start with, besides Fortress Europe. Once you get that, you'll have a better idea of where to go from there. If you've got any more questions, just ask!

Updated questions:
I have Fortress Europe but there is no Udarny Strelkovy battalion nor is there an engineer battalion. I bought Stalin's Onslaught and it has the Udarny Strelkovy in it but not the Engineer. Question: does River of Heroes have both the Udarny Strelkovy and the Engineer-Sapper in the same list??

Yes, river of heroes (just checked it) has an engineer sapper battalion with an udarny strelkovy company as an option.

Legoburner already answered your book question, but I just wanted to add something that's important to note - Just because you have the Udarny Strelkovy box or the Engineer box does not mean you have to use them as Udarny Strelkovy. You could just as easily use the minis to make a regular Strelkovy list, or a Motostrelkovy list. The Engineers you could use to form Sapper platoons, or a Sapper company. You could even use some of the Engineers in camo smocks to make a Scout platoon (I wouldn't use the Engineer minis with body armor for that purpose though).
Most of Battlefront's boxed sets, especially infantry boxed sets, are extremely versatile in their uses, and just because the box comes with platoons organized into a certain configuration (Udarny Strelkovy, for example), does not mean that the minis will work only for that type of company. Another example is the German Festungskompanie boxed set is a perfect base for a Grenadierkompanie or even a motorized Panzergrenadierkompanie - the minis aren't restricted to use in a Festungskompanie.

No problem! If you've got anymore questions, just ask, and I hope you enjoy Flames of War! It's a great system (it's my personal favorite company-level ruleset) and it's always good to have more FOW and historical players in general on Dakka!
