Would You Buy Race Specific Warhammer 40K Terrain?  [RSS] Share on facebook Share on Twitter Submit to Reddit

Poll
Compared to what you've bought (or plan to buy) of the Imperial themed GW terrain, would you buy race specific Warhammer 40K terrain if it existed (vote for all that apply)?
I have no (or very little) Imperial terrain currently, but would buy a TON of race specific terrain (choose along with the appropriate race(s) below).
'Chaos-ified' Imperial terrain - I would buy as much, if not more.
Daemonworld terrain - I would buy as much, if not more.
Dark Eldar terrain - I would buy as much, if not more.
Eldar terrain - I would buy as much, if not more.
Necron terrain - I would buy as much, if not more.
Ork terrain - I would buy as much, if not more.
Tau terrain - I would buy as much, if not more.
Tyranid terrain - would buy as much, if not more.
I only play Imperial armies so I'd likely not be interested.
I'd buy a small amount of one or several races, but nothing compared to the amount of Imperial terrain I've already bought.
I don't buy (or buy very little) GW terrain (for any reason), so I would likely not be interested.

I think GW considers it much 'safer' to sell only Imperial terrain because it is usable with more of their armies then any race-specific terrain.

But I've often wondered if good terrain crosses all bounds, in that people are always willing to fight on any type of terrain if its cool, even if they don't currently collect the army that 'belongs' to the terrain.

So for this poll, imagine that all the race-specific terrain is just as cool (if not more so) then the current range of Imperial terrain offered by GW.

While I do like the GW terrain, I think I spend enough on the models alone that I couldn't justify spending any more on terrain. Especially when my wife buys my Ork terrain on Ebay for >$10

I'd definitely be interested in picking up some necron/tau terrain. Ork terrain would probably be more fun to make than buy.

GW should make some generic civilian terrain.

I'm only playing Imperial right now (1 Company of Marines and a fledgling Guard regiment) but I'm looking to expand and get about a 1000-1500 pt army for each race once all the 5th ed releases are more or less done. So I'd probably buy a bit from each category, yea. Though I enjoy making my own terrain far more.

I mainly make my own terrain. Have done so for most of the last 15 years and have become quite proficient.
The only pre-made/kit terrain I have are because the wife liked them and made me assemble them for her (but I get to play with them).

GW could also do some xenos terrain that isn't quite race specific. While Tau and Eldar both have unique looks, making terrain that doesn't have those defining features, but instead was just curved and different, it could be used for both races (and maybe Necrons too). Maybe even have a separate race specific sprue with spirit stones for Eldar, etc.

I,like chromedog, build my own terrain, however if GW produced sothing along the lines of Ork forts/strongholds or incampments/cities,I'd buy them,of course I'd bash them together with my home builds, but I'd buy them.

Ork, Chaos, Daemonworld, Tau and Tyranid would be of the most interest to me, but I'd consider anything if it looked decent.

Although I agree the Ork stuff is probably more fun to make if so inclined. Plus you can get away with a less professional finish than with Imperial styled buildings.

Thanks man. And I think that nid/daemon could be made another 'generic' xenos terrain. Spines and pools, etc. Make it look somewhat 'nid, but not quite as pronounced as the FW and GW-made terrain has been.

Orks could just get an add-on sprue to 'orkify' other buildings.

Congratulations, your dismissive and conclusory commentary has provided nothing to this discussion or the wider community on whose behalf you arrogantly presume to speak nor does it engage in any meaningful way the remark it lamely targets. But you did manage to gain experience points toward your next level of internet tough guy.

I was thinking an ork sprue with some big shootas, glyph plates, and riveted plates of odd shapes and sizes would be nice. Heck, that would make a nice vehicle accesory sprue too.

The way that GW needs to test the sell-ability is release some APOC kits for Eldar and Nids. If they sell well, I would guess terrain for them would too. And I'm guessing that Eldar and Nids (along with Orks) are the most popular Xenos armies.

Cool post!

I voted Eldar terrain, the curved lines and organic shapes are harder to make.

Ork terrain? Really? Just glue some plasticard to handfulls of nuts and bolts.

Ork terrain would be a waste of time. (IMO) I wouldn't buy any of it.
