Yes, it's not a very historical sounding title

I bought that Udarny book, and it starts you off with

HQ + Komisar
3 Sniper Teams
Anti-tank Rifle Platoons
230 pts.

and 2

Rifle Companies with 2 Rifle Platoons and 1 SMG Platoon each
500 pts.

Which is a nice start. 730 pts, if my maths is right.

So where do I go from there? I like infantry over tanks, but I'm told I'll need to have
anti-tank and whatnot. Any pointers?

Here's what I want to do.

HQ
*Anti-tank 45s
*Anti-Tank Rifle teams
*Sappers and supply wagon

Rifle Company with 3 platoons
*1 swapped with SMGs
*Kommisar
*Maksim MGs

Shock Scout Comany with 2 platoons

Shock SMG company with 3 platoons

Anti-tank Company with 3 platoons of 45mms

1 Flamethrower Section

Shock Artillery
*2 76mm ZIS-3 platoons
*2 Howitzer Platoons
*Observer Rifle team
*PTRD anti-tank Rifle teams

I think that's about 1500

Edit: Oh crap, I need two rifle companies. Back to the drawing board.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
1535 list

HQ
*Anti-tank 45s
*Anti-tank rifles
*Sapper
*Supply

Rifle Company x2
*One Rifle/MG platoon
*One SMG platoon
*Maksim MGs
*Kommisar

Shock Scout Platoon
*2 Scout Squads

Shock SMG Company
*2 Platoons
*Kommisar

Shock Anti-Tank Company
*2 45mms

Shock Artillery Battalion
*2 76mm ZIS-3 gun platoons
*2 Howitzer Platoons
*Observer Rifle eam
*anti-tank rifle teams

I'm a little confused by the last option. It says two things:

1. Add two Howitzer platoons for 75 points for both platoons

and

2. HQ section with 2 Howitzer platoons 170 points

What's the difference between the two options?

It looks like a good infantry heavy list. Just make sure that if you're going heavy infantry, go really heavy. If you deploy well, with AT guns and sappers mixed in with your infantry companies, you'll be very hard to dig out on the defense. If you're attacking, try to pin as much as possible with the artillery and SMGs while you're moving in.

Also, don't underestimate the power of ambushing AT guns.

As far as the howitzers, I think what it means is that if you want only the HQ and Howitzers, you pay 170 points. If you start with the HQ and ZIS-3 guns, it costs 75 points to add the Howitzers to that. I don't have the book here though. Does that make sense?

Edit - updated the Howitzer info.

Yeah, it makes sense now.

Thanks! With a few tweaks I'm sure I can keep it under 1500.

Lego,

I've done it once before. After seeing Hordini's models, I went out and bought
some Rangers and painted them up. I screwed up and painting some things
with metallics instead of green and it felt like it took a long time to paint such
tiny figs.

Now, I think I can run with them. We'll see after I paint my Mumak!
