I hope I do not just come across as another complaining Sisters player here. I think I have come to accept the inevitability of life: death, taxes, and Space Marines getting all the love. I sometimes think that, since we cannot beat them (for releases), I may as well join them. The trouble is, everyone already plays them, and Marines vs Marines just sounds like an utterly boring prospect.

For the MEQ players out there, is Marine vs Marine as bad as I think it is? I am anticipating that both players would be using practically the same strategy, practically the same units, everything goes *ping ping* off armour and the game is decided by who can roll the most 3+'s. There is no Divine Guidance so you can laugh at your opponent's Termies falling to a single Troops Choice (assuming absurdly good rolls/bad saves). Secondly, how do you pick your chapter? They seem to be Smurfs, Angry Red Smurfs with Angrier Friends in Black Suits, Emo Green Smurfs with Bikie Friends and Friends in White Suits, Angrier Black Smurfs and their Boyfriends, Drunk Blue-Grey Smurfs and their Animal Friends, and Paint-By-Numbers `I Can't Believe Their Not Smurfs'. I do not consider the Grey Smurfs a real army, as they only have two flipping units. As a non-player, am I over-simplifying things here, or do they boil down to the same soup and it is just a question of picking the fluff you like best?

As a more general question, should I just give in already, or hold out in hope that Games Workshop runs out of chapters to do and I can finally run some new plastics alongside my (mostly) 2nd Edition models? That could be 2020, but at least it will still be the year before Dark Eldar will be rumoured to be updated.

1.) For some reason I am getting Deja Vu from reading this.
2.) Just ally your sisters to a small force of Marines if you want Divine Guidance.
3.) Make your own chapter, or choose a later founding chapter like the mentors, celestial lions, lamenters, etc. Here's a link to help: http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/List_of_Space_Marine_Chapters

As for worried about bland tactics, etc, marines can be very unique in the way you build them, with a dread-heavy army with a master of the forge, or an all-bikes army (expensive money-wise though), or a shrike army that all has fleet of foot, or even a Smurfs army with Papa Smurf and his "I break the entire game" special abilities.

Dont do it. Dont be like everyone else. Who cares if they get updated frequently with new models? Its not like everyone wont run out and get the latest anyways.

Pick something you like. Look at the non human armies. I find a lot of people just stick with SMs and Guard as if theyre forced to be the good guys.

Just dont be another bland SM player in the already large pile.

Marine vs marine is achualy pretty fun, you get to compare tactics and lists to your enemys and can be pretty annoying.
