Hello. When I played Tau, I realized about halfway through that I didn't like the kroot models. My solution was to make a squad of fire warriors to count as kroot.

I don't have my original squad at the moment, so I reproduced how to make them:

These are the pieces you need: 1 standing fire warrior legs, 1 unhelmeted fire warrior head, 1 devilfish pilot body, 1 loose kroot rifle, 1 fire warrior grenade arm, and 1 fire warrior sensor arm.

Step one: Take wire cutters and cut the pilot torso in half:

Trim the bottom with your hobby knife. It should end up looking like this:

Step 2: Attach the new torso to the fire warrior legs.

Step 3: Cut the the grenade out of the grenade hand with your hobby knife:

Step 4: Attach the grenade arm (sans grenade) to the kroot rifle:

Step 6: Glue both the new kroot rifle arm and the sensor arm to the body.

Now you're done! You could also use one of these as a kroot shaper if you attach it to a normal kroot squad.

EDIT: Here's another one I made with a knife using the same steps but substituting an "open hand arm" and knife for the sensor arm:

The Seraphs of Thunder: a homebrew, almost entirely converted successor Deathwing. And also some Orks. And whatever else I have lying around.

Great guide for a cool posed different kroot (even though i love kroot)
i'm just worried the fluff freaks would be all over you about the backstory why he has that armor save the weapon instead or better yada yada
but overall nice conversion

The conversion is nice, but this does break fluff like crazy, and is barely WYSIWYG.

There was a sept that focused on close combat right? Just say they're from that one for fluff nazis.

you could cut out the sensor and position the gun with some work to make a shoulder shooter guy, good tutorial but wouldn't that be annoying having to get pilot boddies

the reason i dont see it filling fluff is that the tau even if they were so totally focussed on combat would use a feuture(esque) sword rather than feral looking gun

I'd be surprised... Close Combat is a biiiig taboo in Tau Society; so dirty, rough and uncivilised!

That's why they let those sub-Tau Kroot do it... :>

Thought I'd give the whole 'Blogger' lark a go...

Actually, I think you are talking about the Farsight Enclave, which IIRC does not make use of Kroot allies.

Or IG w/Kroot weapons. Humans that have gone over to the tau probably still like to punch things in the face

...Y'know, I can't, for the life of me, figure out why you needed to use the Devilfish commander's torso instead of a regular Fire Warrior torso. Was it just to get a spare one, so you're not wasting any torsos for your actual Fire Warriors? They seem otherwise identical (except for the Devilfish commander's little tassel, but you cut that off).

Personally, I like the kroot models, but this still provides a good insight into how to modify Fire Warrior hands--cutting out the grenade looks like an easy way to give the trooper a free hand for whatever purpose you might have (such as giving him a medkit to schlep around).

I'm not sure what fluff has to do with Painting and Modeling, but I think it looks great I know a Tau player who I bet would love this idea.

Cool tutorial man , has given me I deas of converting up a bunch as well, but I think I will find some naked arms and torsos to represent the lack of an armour save maybe mix in a few tau and kroot togther to represent a failed sept that has been found by a group of kroot. Thanks for the great idea

Jeez this is a serious double-case of thread necro...

"From the fires of Betrayal unto the blood of revenge we bring the name of Lorgar, the Bearer of the Word, the favored Son of Chaos, all praise be given to him. From those that would not heed we offer praise to those who do, that they might turn their gaze our way and gift us with the Boon of Pain, to turn the Galaxy red with the blood, and feed the hunger of the Gods."

My only problem is that a Kroot is clearly larger than a Tau, yet this one has no problem carrying a gun bigger than him.
