Ok so about a month ago a friend of mine stated that he would like to start a Necromunda campaign. I haven't played Necromunda in about 4 years, but it has always been one of my favorite games. We started getting our gangs together and recruiting other players. We currently have 4 players and have at least 2 other guys working on their gangs. Myself and friend Alec have multiple gangs so we are taking turns playing the different gangs so that one gang is not overly powerful but still advancing.

This journal is going to cover my Orlock gang, Brax's Bragarts. I used a box of Catachan Jungle fighters as the starting point and converted a Heavy from the old Schaeffer's Last Chancers Bragg model. I'm actually pretty impressed with the conversion. Hopefully next week I will post pics. I would like to start with the background I wrote a couple of weeks ago and then touch on the highlights after each game. I've played two games with them so far and have been pretty lucky. Comments and advice is always appreciated:

Brax’s Braggarts

Brax – The Leader of the gang. Brax grew up in the Underhive and spent his pre-teen years working for an older Orlock ganger named Jak (polishing his guns, running errands, etc…). Jak was seriously wounded in a fight and died shortly afterwards. The last thing he did before he died was to give Brax his trusty chainsword. Jak told Brax that someday he would lead his own gang. Now the Leader of his own band of misfits, Brax is ready to make his mentor proud.
Weapons: Chainsword (Jak’s Pride) and Laspistol.

Rat – Heavy weapon ganger and Brax’s #2 men. If anybody knows something about Rat it’s two things. Don’t make him angry and don’t touch his gun. Rat is massive for an Orlock, other gangers whisper that his dad was a Goliath boss, but such whispers are few and far between. Rat favors a custom made Heavy Stubber (Betsy). He handcrafted it out of parts from a dozen different guns. Though he has a large, rough exterior Rat is fairly quiet and one of the few gangers who knows how to read. He has been friends with Brax since they were children and a trustworthy friend.
Weapons: Heavy Stubber (Betsy) and Autopistol

Scabbs – Specialist weapon ganger. Scabbs is a self-admitted pyromaniac. Usually not an issue as long as he can keep his Flamer pointed at a rival gang member. Scabbs met Brax at a local bar, well more specifically at a local bar fight. Scabbs was drunk and mistook Brax for someone who owed him money. Naturally a fight breaks out and afterwards they are formally introduced after sobering up in the local Arbitas jail. Brax liked how Scabbs handled himself and wondered how well he could fight when sober. Scabbs happily joined the gang and (when sober) has been a useful gang member.
Weapons: Flamer and Laspistol

Sirius – Ganger. Sirius was a miner by trade, but due to sabotage (by a rival House) the mining company who employed him has recently gone out of business. Sirius has a family at home to feed and after meeting Brax through his #2 man Rat he decided that any work is better than none.
Weapons: Shotgun (Slug, Manstopper shells)

Timmah – Ganger. An old acquaintance of Brax and former Juve under Jak. Timmah is fine shot with a shotgun and known for his quick wit.
Weapons: Shotgun (Slug, Manstopper shells)

Tyree – Ganger. Tyree used to work at a bar that Brax and the others would visit, but lost his job when a rival gang burned down the bar. He acts as Brax’s contact man with local businesses and industry. The time spent breaking up fights and keeping a relatively normal amount of control in an Underhive bar has made him a valuable gang member as well as de-facto treasurer.
Weapons: Lasgun

Yarrow – Ganger. Yarrow was another local at Tyree’s bar. A long time friend turned fellow Gang member.
Weapons: Lasgun

Zed – Ganger. If one word could describe Zed it would be unstable. Captured at an early age and forced into labor has led Zed to be a hard as nails individual. He escaped the labor gang in his late teen years and has since wondered the streets of the Underhive. He met Brax through Tyree (before his bar was burned down).
Weapons: Laspistol and Flail

Kimmy – Ganger. An old time friend of Scabbs. After the most recent gang fight Kimmy’s house was used as an temporary hospital for his friend who was recently injured. A fine enough shot with a Lasgun, Kimmy is a loyal and trustworthy person and perfect for Brax’s budding gang.
Weapons: Lasgun, Autopistol

Territories:
Chem Pit, Old Ruins, Holestead, Waterstill, and Workshop

Ok 2 game wrap up. First game was a Scavenger's scenario (minus the monster) against my friends Goliaths. Game was pretty brutal. Rat (the Heavy) took at least two guys out of the game and my other shooting was fantastic. I passed all of my Ammo tests and forced a Bottle Neck around turn 4 or 5.

After the first game I sent Zed to collect at the Chem Pit. He rolls a six and now (because of his burns) causes Fear. I thought that was great because according to his fluff he's a little crazy to start. My Leader Brax increased his WS and my other advances were ok.

Game 2: Rematch against the Goliaths, Gang fight is the Scenario. I huddled up Zed, Brax, Timmah, and Scabbs and send them running to a center multi-level tower. Rat and Wretch hung back and tried to pick off whoever came across them. Yarrow was on Sniper duty.

Turn 2 Rat's Heavy Stubber (Betsy) Jams, Scabbs is burnt to a crisp by a flamer and is Out of the Game. Next turn Brax charges into hth along with Zed, but Zed gets knocked down by somebody on Overwatch. Brax proceeds to knock 3 guys out of the game (one of which dies afterwards). I force a surprisingly early Bottle neck and win the second game of the night. Brax is starting to make a name for himself.

Post-Game: Brax gets 2 advances, rolls another WS increase (now at 6!!!) and gains one Str (now at 4). Sirius gains Fast Shot (has only 1A), Yarrow gains Crack Shot, and Scabbs injuries lead him to gain an Old Battle Wound. I recruit Kimmy, buy some armor for Brax, and prepare for the next game. Brax is getting to be pretty beefy. He has WS6, Str4, a chainsword, and Flak armor. I would like to see his Wounds or Toughness increased, but that's all on the dice at this point. My next purchase for him will probably be a Sword so that I can Double-Parry and all of my attacks will be at Strength 4.

Next Game: Should be Saturday the 29th against my friend Keith and his Van Saars. This will be his first campaign game, but there is more than 250pts between our gang ratings so his gangers are going to be advancing like crazy.

8-29-09 Update:

My buddy Keith and I scheduled a game for last weekend. He brought his brand new Van Saars for a showdown with the Bragarts. I spent a good chunck of Saturday building terrain so I was excited about getting to use it for the first time.

Game1:
He rolled for the scenario and we got the Gang Fight. Scabbs Old Battle Wounds were acting up so he didn't take part in the action. Terrain was a little sparse, but enough for each gang to find sufficient cover. Rat was the man of the match. From his viewpoint he had a good part of the field covered with his Heavy Stubber. Turn 2 he opened up a Van Saar Ganger and Juve. He downed the Ganger and took the Juve Out of Action (whom later succumbed to his injuries). Keith responded by downing a ganger (Kimmy and Sirius) from each of my two other groups. Brax (my leader) broke and ran for cover along with Timmah from the other group. I was right on the verge of bottlenecking, but two turns later I downed his Leader (forcing the Bottle test). He failed on an 8 and the game was over.

Post Game Stuff:
Keith lost his Juve in the Serious Injury roll, but after the second game of the night I began to believe that his gang was getting the Red Shirt Disorder. Kimmy (my newest recruit) suffered a Chest wound. I though it was ironic that before the game Scabbs decided to stay home. I pictured him there on the couch smoking a lho-stick when the doors to the gang HQ bust open and they have his friend Kimmy on a stretcher. That will teach him to miss out on a fight. Rat finally got his advance and rolled on the Techno chart and gained the Inventor Skill. I sent Timmah to the Chem Pit, but he fell into the nasty chemicals. He is now the second gang member to do so and I'm wondering if this is a new rite of passage for the Bragarts.

Game 2:
Keith rolled again for the scenario and was given the scenario choice. He decided the Shoot Out would be fun. He rolled for # of gangers and got 2, while I was luckier and got 3. We had a roll off for each gang member to see who would have the honor. He had to use his newest recruit and another up-and-coming ganger. I rolled for mine and ended up getting my leader Brax and both Heavies. The dice were definately in my corner this evening.
Build Up: I was up 2-8 at one point when I rolled 3 fives in a row. He finished with 2 6's so I drew first and each of his gangers would recieve 9 xp. My Initiative rolls were just slowed. Two 5s and a 3. He rolled a 2 and a 1. Brax fired first nailing the veteran ganger in the shoulder and downing him, Rat fired but since he is usually packing around Betsy, he missed. Scabbs wanted to make up for missing the previous fight and shot the new recruit right between the eyes with his Laspistol. He volunteered to Bottle test and that was the game.

Post Game:
Keith's Red Shirt streak continues as his new recruit dies. His other Ganger makes a full recovery. Brax advances and gets +1 Strength. My advance rolls for Brax have been very consitent. After the first two games he advanced three times. His first two rolls increased his WS by +2 and his third roll increased his strength. He is now at WS6 and S4 (Whoops didn't know max was 4) and gained Iron Will. Should be very helpful in keeping the guys in the fight. After the next game I'm buying him two swords so that he can have double Parry. Scabbs advances and gets +1 WS. Rat is currently at 99 Experience so maybe next game he will advance.

My post game Rare Chart rolls were pretty good. I was offered a Hotshot Laser pack and a Red Dot Sight. I will give the Red Dot Sight to Yarrow. He already has Crack Shot so hitting on a 3+ at long range and re-rolling that injury dice should make him a pretty reliable shot.

Next Game: We've got a Necromunda Bash scheduled at a friend's house Thursday night. We're also going to be playing Saturday morning so by next week our gangs will be fairly defined. I've converted a new model for my leader Brax and have a couple more conversions in the works. I would like to have alternate models for each gang member at some point in the near future.

On the perfumed wind

What a great game. Loved it a lot- my only issue was trying to keep on all the upgrades. After 10 games, most of the models didn't look much like what they were actually carrying.

This was a nice lil' nostalgia trip for me, thanks for posting.

You gonna post some pics?

Keeping up with the modelling can be a real pain, but as long as the fig is in the region of being right our group doesn't get into many problems. Thanks for posting

9-1-09 Update

Necromunda Bash is planned for Thursday night. Alec (our de facto Arbitrator) is going to run a Lord of the Spire and Purge the Unclean scenario from Outlanders. The Lord of the Spire uses 2-4 "bases" and a tall tower with a big red button at the top. The object is to climb the tower and be the first to hit the button. Only three gangers are allowed at a time from each gang (when 4 players are involved) and when one ganger goes down another can replace him from the Home Base. Should be very entertaining. I started building the bases and walkways for the individual gangs. I also purchased some Art Board and we're going to use the old bulk heads to attach the levels together. We are going to have a 6 level Spire and each base will have an 18" Walkway connecting them. In the future I would like to build a Spire Table with slag pits, cracks in the surface, etc...

Purge the Unclean sounds pretty good. From what I understand you place stacks of 3 playing cards all over the table. The gangs have to work together to investigate the piles. When revealed the cards in the pile represent different creatures and/or surprise attacks. The experience bonus for the game is pretty sweet. I am planning on photographing both games and should have pics ready Friday.

I have attached a Necromunda Roster that we are using along with my most current Gang Roster. It's been modified slightly (I did not create this), but should be a decent starting point if you don't have Army Builder

9-8-09 Update:

Played two games Thursday Sept. 3rd. First was Lord of the Spire from the Outlander's book. Four gangs accepted the challenge. Brax and his Bragarts (Orlock), Alec and his Iron Fists (Orlock), Stephen and his Ash Waste Nomads, and Keith's Van Saars. The game was pretty entertaining as only a handful of fighters managed to actually reach the Spire. I believe Stephen and Keith had Gangers within inches of the objective, but were removed from the game when their bases were hit by enemy fire. Alec's leader was dominant as he had Rapid Fire and a Bolter with Reloads. He sat back and knock people from the tower while his Juve knocked me out of the game with a fine round of shooting. Keith was removed as well when his Base was hit three times (thus removing the possibility of him having anybody in the game). Stephen was oh so close to winning multiple times, but in the end Alec became the Lord of the Spire. The Hefty bounty of 100 Creds and lots of experience has put Alec at the head of the Pack. I'm in a close second with the Bragarts, Keith is now third, and Stephen is having a rough time with the Nomads and is considering switching gangs.

The second game was very, very short. Stephen and I teamed up against Alec and Keith in a Gang Fight. They got to go first, but on our turn our Heavy Stubbers managed to force a Bottle test which they failed.

Ganger of the Night (for me at least) goes to Timmah. Before being knocked out of action, Timmah had three wounding hits in the first game. He leveled and at this point has BS4, Str4, Fast Shot, Crack Shot, and an Old Battle Wound. I beefed up his stocks with all Shotgun special ammo and will probably give him Frag grenades after the next game.

My leader Brax is continuing to be a threat to any enemy ganger. After the last game he advanced and recieved the Sprint ability. I also passed onto him a Bionic leg I've had in my stores. He is now WS6, Str4 and has 2 attacks in hth (thanks to the Bionic Leg). He's armed with a Laspistol and Chainsword, but after the next game I'm buying him two swords. His abilities are Sprint and Iron Will. If feel that as long as I can effectively use his movement he has nowhere to go, but up.
