Most of you must be thinking Cooperation? In the 40k universe? What's going on?
I was reading my sm & cron codices and I thought, with the whole my eneny's enemy thing, wouldn't it make sense for the necrons to fight with the imperium vs chaos.

Wouldn't it also make sense for the eldar to fight against chaos and crons, or chaos deamons (?) to fight nids to protect the emotions that brought them to life? Or the crons to protect the empra so he can continue to keep the bulk of chaos away?

Just some thoughts.

Cheese Elemental-Love does not bloom in 40k. Love burns. It gets turned inside out, set on fire, raped, shot with bolters, and beaten with a crowbar.

Well, the necrons are mostly mindless robots, and the C'Tan seem to generally be self-absorbed and aloof. Plus, being a psyker himself, the Emperor may not be the kind of person the C'Tan want to be supporting. It's not as though he'd be any more friendly towards their eventual plan than the Chaos gods.

The Imperium hates just about every alien race, and considering what would likely happen after the alliance with the necrons ends they're on the right track.

Chaos is looking to get a foothold into the material universe, and the Imperium collapsing is a big part of that plan. They'd probably have general support for the tyranids until things started to turn in their favor (they're still quite a way from actually eating the galaxy).

The Eldar and the Imperium actually do work together against chaos quite a bit, but in general the Imperium doesn't trust them because they're aliens (and aliens with a long history of betraying their allies), and the eldar don't think highly enough of humanity to trust them with anything too important.

Still, pretty much every faction could unite with pretty much any other factions, if you need them to for a campaign or apocalypse game or something.

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.

Chaos & Orks have joined together in the fluff, they conquered a system then the orks backstabbed the Chaos and got the whole system.

On that note, did you know there was once a Chaos Lord that got killed by a squig.

Forever alone

The Imperium and Eldar work together often against Chaos, Tyranids and Necrons, but usually only after the Eldar try to be sneaky and the Space Marines give them a thump. Chaos and Orks work together occasionally too, most notably in the first two Dawn of War games; in the first, the Alpha Legion supplied a planet's Orks with Imperial technology so that they could launch a Waaagh! that would distract the Imperium from their covert activities and impede the Eldar's progress. In Winter Assault, a Khornate Chaos Marine army had a strained alliance with Waaagh! Gorgutz, which canonically ended with Warboss Gorgutz killing the Chaos Lord Crull and taking his head for his pointy stick (the alternate Chaos ending results in Gorgutz' clan turning on him and Crull taking control of an Emperor Titan).

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

You have to also remember the reason for human hatred of aliens in 40K, they spend a millenia under siege from every alien they encountered, even the eldar, one time allies, turned their backs on humanity before the time of the emperor.

However, the Blood Axe orks have fought on the side of humanity a few times. (Not like they'll stay on that side forever, but hey, they get some neat gubbins out of it )

And it has happened that, temporarily, armies have unitied against Chaos or against the 'nids. But afterwords they remember why it was they were fighting eachother. (Still, setting up co-op campaings can be fun :3 Imagine Orks and Tau vs Tyranids.)

Yeah the deciever would just make them fight and probably ignore the Necrons for the lulz.

But the other races do team up occasionally. Except Dark Eldar, Chaos, Tyranids, Orks, etc

Basically it seems that only Eldar, Tau and Imperial team up occasionally. Only when the Imperial isn't trying to keep the Tau off their lawn.

The C'tan think of human souls like Doritos, i.e. yummy snacks.

More generally, in this universe, your enemy's enemy is also your enemy, and wants to kill you in horrible ways or eat your soul. Or both.
