So i was reading through the space hulk missions book and noticed that it says that the BA we're involved in raiding a huge space hulk some 650 years before current time, and suffered such horrible losses that the entire chapter was reduced to just 50 marines.
Is this fluff something that's been known, or is it new for space hulk?
It sure makes the crimson's fist defeat at rynn's world look like child's play though.
Do you think it's possible a chapter could recover from such losses?
Also i got to thinking that you can narrow down some of the current BA characters and definitely place them at this space hulk, ie dante, being around 1100 years old had to have been there.
anyway just some thoughts from reading the fluff in space hulk.
Did anyone else notice anything in there?

I also noticed that and found it to be very strange.

The only reason i can easily come up with would be that as he BA are a 1st fouding chapter more effort would have been made to bring them back up to full strength. (maybe inducting members from successor chapters into the BA ranks etc. )

650 years IS long enough for them to be brought back to full strength. They possibly also 'loaned' assets from their offshoot foundingss as well.

Callistarius was Mephiston's name pre-black rage (He, like all BA suffered from it - he alone has beaten it, and this made him the uber-psyker he is now. He took the name Mephiston then).

It's probably just another example of over-the-top, poorly-written fluff that permeates the new books.

Nope, original fluff from the 1st edition that they brought back....

What original fluff from 1st edition??

Current fluff states that if a chapter is reduced to 2 companies it nearly impossible to recover from that. 65 marines and the chapter is dead. as for taking marines from succeser chapters its not common practice. Read the Ba novel by BL in which the chapter has a civil war and askes the succesors to help them by giving some initiates. How many times does this chapter have to have its numbers reduced so badly that it nearly dies as a chpater.

Well, he wasn't chapter master ALL the time. And yeah, that makes no sense.

But hes been master for what, 1000 years IIRC. 650 years back, that wouldve made him master as well

Uh, the 1st ed of Space Hulk. This is a Space Hulk thread, right?

If they made a beachhead, ie torpedo boarding, and found infestation then fed the rest of the chapter into the mess then the chapter deserves to cease

If Dante was chapter master at the time certainly makes me not want to play DA anytime soon
