I was thinking of makeing imperial guard of the space wolf home planet. If the space wolfs have a home planet would they have imperial guard there? and what is the environment like ?

Fenris, the Space Wolf homeworld, doesn't recruit IG regiments or have a standing force of PDF. The Space Wolves are the only defense for the planet (which pretty much consists of the Fang, a mountain so tall it reaches through the atmosphere; Anasheim, the only stable landmass; a lot of ocean; a few scattered islands that are unstable due to volcanic and seismic activities).
The Spaces Wolves, according to the Black Library books at least, have a large number of Bondsmen within the Chapter. These are freemen, not serfs like most other chapters use. They are drawn from failed aspirants and the descendants of other Bondsmen (and women). It's suggested that some families have been in service to the Chapter since the Heresy.

The home planet of the Space Wolves is Fenris; it is deadly cold in winter, boiling with lava in summer, has almost no stable land for long periods of time and is home to some of the galaxy's most dangerous animals. The place is basically worse than Catachan.
Its inhabitants are on a feral level of civilization, nomads who spend large amounts of time squabbling amongst themselves for the small available amount of land. Also, as a Space Marine Homeworld, Fenris is exempt from all Administratum tithes and so it doesn't have to provide Imperial Guard regiments like most other planets do. I can see support 'regiments' of Space Wolf chapter serfs (or whatever they're called) existing, though...

I've been kicking around the idea of doing a SW-themed IG army for awhile. I almost think that an Aircav list would be pretty representative. They should have equipment that is at least above average for IG. Valks would be suitable. Vets would represent the Bondsmen, could go with or without carapace armor.

While it's true that Fenris doesn't recruit an IG regiment, it does stand to reason that the bondsmen might have IG equipment (STC, etc). I especially like some sort of combination between Valhallan and Elysian guys but they would at least have some Leman Russ tanks (!) for the sake of off-world (if still intra system) combat. I think dietrich's definitely on the right track with aircav. Vostroyans, IMO, are too Napoleonic to be suitable for Fenris.

I definitely don't think that any IG army from Fenris works fluff-wise. While the SW do have support from non-marines that support amounts to the people who brew the mead, roast the meat, clean the bathrooms, and some serving wenches for morale. The rest of the population is unaware of the Imperium and see the SWs as myths. Plus, they fight with medieval weaponry.

Playing Space Marine demo while GF was scrapbooking:
Me: I can turn it down, if the screams of dying orks are annoying you.
Her: That's ok, I love hearing the screams of dying orks.
My armies (W-D-L):
2,000 (about 1,200 painted and now I'm feeling the call of Russ) 3-4-3
2,000 (about 1,000 painted, WiP) 0-1 |

Aye, I would't go with a Fenrisian regiment. There are plenty of ice planets out there in the Imperium, many of them feral or not. So take your pick.

Personally, I use my Space Wolves with other famous Guard Regiments.
Logan Grimnar is well loved by the Guard, as he is one of perhaps... ok he is the ONLY one, who actually gives two gaks about their wellbeing. After Armageddon, he was mightily pissed off.

Some chapters would have regiments on their homeworlds. Macragge has a PDF, IIRC.

Aye, but it also states that Macragge doesn't NEED to raise it's regiments, but they are so advanced/civilised/rich/well-endowed that they do so anyway.
Do Fenrisians sound anything like that? (Except mabye well-endowed... )

Aye, that we are laddie. However, the real reason why they don't, is because Fenrisians are so bloody 'ard, that if they joined the guard, they would make the Catachans cry, go to Cadia and destroy Chaos, then there would be no-one left to fight, and it would become Horus Heresy 2.0
