Excuse me if I look lame or stuff but it is not that I am lame and whining, I am noob and can't figure out

I just bought my 5500 points spacemarines army and I will continue to buy more but I became frustrated to see that my army has lame units and my Uber Million Dollar, super trained, godly tactical squad space marines don't have a stick in their hands to make a good close combat

When I first prepared to buy my army I was thinking of tyranids, but a close friend of mine strongly suggested me not to do so (Don't know why) and I changed my mind to space marines. I was gathering my options and decided to build a custom chapter using black templar rules but again another close friend pleaded me to play ultramarines as they looked awesome (for him). And I have choosen Ultramarines and bought 1 of nearly everything .

First I saw the Vanguard veterans "AWESOME!!!". Then I found that fitting them with jump packs made them Near-Terminator expensive, flying meatballs. They only have 1 extra attack than assault marines yet 2 times expensive. 5 models, 22£....

Then I saw the legion of damned "AWESOME!!!". Then I found that they are normal marines with invuln. saves and 2 times expensive. Leave it.Then I saw devastator squads "AWESOME!!!" Then I found that even tactial squads buy heavy weapons cheaper and I saw Longfangs with cheaper weapons. A 10 men devastator squad with NO heavy weapons have the same point cost with a 10 men long fang squad with 2 missile launchers and 2 heavy bolters who can fire each group seperatly.

Yeah I have more choices but they are not cheaper than others .

Don't get me wrong I am still happy with my smurfs. I love the honour guard (it would be better to have an apothecary with them :( ), I love to paint the shining gold near that blue. I think I just don't understand . Give me an apothecary with my honour guard and I will die happy

This is why you actually do some research before you buy a 5500 army.

I might be wrong, but don't all tactical Marines now come with a bolt pistol and close combat weapon as part of their standard armament?

Actually,

IIRC that a tactical marine have a bolter and a bolter pistol (so you can shoot at 12'' and still assault) but no CC weapon other than the pistol itself.

Anyway, probably they suck in CC because they aren't meant for CC, just shoot your opponent down with bolters, flamers rocket launchers and then CC with assault squad, for example...

Your right Mick A. In the rules it said every one who was a combatant was assumed to be carrying knife/hand Weapon and it didn't necessarily have to motion it on the unit description, so knife and bolt pistol two CC weapons. That’s what made them tactical they could hit you with mild heavy weapons fire and hold their own in CC!

The only people who were assumed to not be armed with hand weapons were civilians if you wanted to include them for some reason?

Aahh the old days....

You should really have a word with that friend who advised you to go Marines instead of Tyranids (first mistake) and then reject your custom ideas in favor of Ultramarines (I don't hate them like some people do, but I think homemade is still better if done well). You really should.

I think the main issue is that your friends are not always correct. YOU need to choose what army to play, especially if you are going to purchase a full 5500pts. worth of any army. I would have looked at all your options of the different types of armies that are available. If you wanted to play 'Nids, play 'Nids. Don't let your fiends make your decisions for you.

Eventhough they are your friends does not mean all their intentions are honorable. They may not wanted to play against 'Nids, so they tried to pull you away from them, especially since there is a new codex coming out.

...all else fails go Orks

I feel your pain mate, also some more options for them and maybe a 6+ in save? Then I would never stop using them

As for main thing, I also believe you should have done some research before forking out on 5500 points of marines! (I have 6500 pts and it took me 5 years to build up!)
But really its not the end of the world, if you can make your army into a codex battle company you will be able to feel good in fluff terms and its great fun for apoc battles. You can do allot with 5500pts of smurfs! :p
