Long time residents of Dakka will recall Stelek, one time resident here and builder of army lists (he also has the social graces of a concrete elephant...). He made his own blogspot 'Yes the truth hurts' and has just reviewed Gwar's homemade FAQ, the review can be viewed here:

Long time?

Christ it wasn't that long ago.

Longtime members remember who Drew Riggo was... not Stelek...

Oh, and as much as Stelly's bile-filled flaming nonsense is a waste of time to read as it's mostly him just swearing his head off at Yak and Gwar! (hell, I hate the way the INAT FAQ changes rules, but I'm not going to be a c**t about it), I did find this part hilarious:

SW.49.05 – Q: If Bjorn suffers any destroyed result, is he in contact with himself at the end of the game for the purposes of additional Kill Points? Similarly, is he within 3” of himself for the purposes of contesting an objective?
A: No, he is not in either case, as he is destroyed. You must have another model in base contact or within 3”. [R.a.W]

Whoever asked that question...sigh. I'll just leave it alone. O_o

Is a dead model in contact with himself... is he within 3" of himself for contesting objective. Yeah, gotta agree with Stelly here - the person who asked that question needs to avoid breeding.

Stelek's blog is in many ways like 4-chan: I know I dont' have to go there myself, as the good stuff is brought back by others. And this, I must say, is quite good stuff.

Does anybody else enjoy the way he references Dakka the same way a divorced guy talks about the ex-wife he clearly misses but has to pretend to hate? I know I do. Is it pathetically sad or sadly pathetic?

Well, despite his rants against Yakface, which are entirely off the mark, I miss Stelek. He's vitriolic and aggressive, but his army builds did often leave me saying 'oh yeah... that is an interesting way of playing it'. A curmudgeonly old bastard, more like Quint in Jaws or Oscar the Grouch than the self-marketing praise-needy alternative inferior product we've been left with.

There is a certain personality type that tends not to last long in any social circle, and that's the self absorbed attention seeker. Both of those attributes are difficult to deal with, but when combined they tend to create highly unstable relationships. Now, most of those type are simply easy to ignore, but combine those two attributes with some ability or talent, and now we've got a problem. See, there can be value in have a person around, but when they see the social system primarily as a vehicle for providing them with an audience, they will do whatever they have to keep the spot light on them. Good, bad, ugly... they'll do it. Add in a healthy dose of self deception about their own abilities, and you've got a toxic brew.

We had a guy in my college fraternity that simply assumed he was the smartest, best looking, all around best person on the planet. Whenever anything didn't go his way, it was obviously somebody elses fault. Any time a friend said anything negative, that friend became an enemy. The best man at his wedding could barely stand the guy.

It's sad, because rather than admit that they can learn from others and back down a bit, they'd rather cling to their self idealization. If I've learned one thing in life, it's to stay the hell out of the way of these people. just let them burn themselves out like they always do.

I got a good laugh out of this. Partly because of some of the dumb question asked in the FAQ, partly because of the blunt responses from Stelek. Mostly from the senseless bashing from the comments though.

Funny, because the same thing could be said about Dakka. Honestly, try saying anything against any of the regulars here and you get jumped all over very quickly.

Whether you like him or not, you gotta admit that publishing a FAQ with so many rules changes is really stupid. Its like, hey I am publishing my house rules but calling them a FAQ and calling it official so I can jerk people around.

Nonsense. There are always lots of questions that arise in any good rules set much less GW. Faq's keep us from havign to argue all freeking day.

FAQ's should clarify, not change rules though.

(also, I am pretty sure frazzled follows me to any thread I post in. /ascared)

Much of the profanity is for profanities sake too.

I like the idea of FAQ's, I just don't find the need much of the time. Though in a Tournament setting, I would imagine it's always a good idea to keep everyone on the same page by using them. Not that I'm a huge tourny player!

Funny frazzled but the order of posts says that I was here first.

Also, why should Gwar get to change the rules and decide how things should be FAQed? Sorry but most of his changes are laughable and would not fly if a SW player was playing me.

Everybody making their own "official" FAQ's is a great way to ruin this game.

Well they can also address where to find the rule, which is helpful.
EDIT: lets see if this one takes.
Woops Timmah you were first. You win this time. But I'll be back buahahahaah!
I like the concept of real Frequently Asked Questions and a compendium of RAW thoughts on issues that arise. Sort of like YMDC but kept to a brief comment or two not like the worthless 12 page monsters I often see.

I'm with Timmah.

FAQ's should answer any questions that have been asked frequently, and nothing more. They should not change rules. When you change rules, it's errata, and as much as it pains me to say this - no one 'cept GW has the power to change their rules. You can write your own rules, but dressing them up as 'clarifications' is a no-no.

And Fraz, first personal attacks against Cheese Elemental and now baiting Timmah with pictures. What's happening man?

Very true, and I am fine with any FAQ that clarifies rules.

Really if something cannot be answered by the current rules, the most that should happen is the player made FAQ should point out both sides of the issue and move on. Not make a decision for the rest of us.

oh and HBMC actually that picture is where my screen name comes from. (named Tim irl, so I got it all the time) So it doesn't bother me at all especially since I made my name like that.

I don't think anyone accepts anything from the internet as official, outside of GW's own FAQ work. Everything else is simply trying to answer questions that haven't been answered yet. How you play it is as always going to be up to you and your opponent ^_-.

I agree here. I think I said this in another thread, but I suspect that most players don't even know any of these FAQ's even exist, let alone debate which one's to use, but that's really neither here nor there.

grey_death wrote:Everything else is simply trying to answer questions that haven't been answered yet.

I don't consider changing a rule to be 'answering a question'. I consider changing a rule to be changing a rule.

grey_death wrote:I think he's slipping quickly into senility

Slipping, yes, but I don't think it has anything to do with senility.

It's just another way to rip apart other people. I didn't like GWAR's FAQ, but it's just plain simple to ignore it. It's nothing remotely official, so why worry.

Stelek makes a lot of claims how certain groups/sites/clubs are bad for the hobby. Honestly, the most polarizing things I've ever read online about 40K come from him.

It's simply amazing to read the amount of derogatory and inflammatory posts about the 40K community on his site. Sadly, his site reminds me of a car crash. You don't want to look, but you enevitably do. And nothing good seems to come from looking.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

I agree completely.

To the credit of it all, I haven't read much of any FAQ/Errata that's released outside of GW's own work in those areas. I think the last I've taken any interest in was Yaks FAQ work. And even then, it's mostly just a sideline interest.

Why worry about it?

Because other people read it and take its answers to be official. Just like the one at BoLS. Then you have to play these people in tournaments and the like.

And thanks to sportsmanship scores then you become the bad guy and suffer because you point out to him that he read something that has a rule answered incorrectly.

Believe me, it causes problems.

I just find it funny that people whining about the rules changes are the same people who say "By RaW Blood Claws do not get their bonus attacks so by letting them do so you are a cheater and TFG".

I also find it hilarious stelek rags on me for using the Creative Commons Licence, when he has his blog under the same Licence.
