Just wondering when and in what form GW released guardsmen with slotted bases and tabbed feet?. Was is part of a special boxset, like Black Reach? I wasn't aware that guardsmen ever came that way, but I saw some on eBay and it got me thinking.

I bought mine when the plastic cadians first came out, and they don't have slotted bases, just regular ones that you glue the feet straight onto.

Might be the ones that have like two pieces and come 4-5 to a box - those snap-fit ones.

HBMC is right on the money. You get like 5 guardsmen for 5 bucks or so, and they're all snap-fit. My FLGS has a few boxes of em.

2 pieces!? wth? So the little boxes of 5 guardsmen are snap fit with 2 pieces? That's wierd.

By 2 pieces, I'm guessing they aren't very posable then? Does that mean they come with a 'front' and 'back' piece that just push together?

If they were 5 bucks at my FLGS, I'd be ok, but they ain't. I thought it was already quite a a rip-off, but now that I know they're only 2 piece, snap-fit models...

What do people think of these compared to the multi-part kit ones?

A whole bunch'a races have them. There are basic snap-fit Orks, Chaos Marines, Chaos Warriors, Skeletons, Orcs, Goblins, Space Marines, Guardsmen.

They're just there for people to fill out units and, no, they're not posable much at all.

Yeah, if you don't care much for posing or weapon loadouts, you'll get more models out of them than you would buying a regular box set. This is good for me, because I can never have enough Termaguants - I can get 20 of 'em for $40 Canadian. That said, the lack of posability or biomorphs blows.

In 1986-87 Citadel released a range called Imperial Army, which later got ret-conned to Imperial Guard.

There were various metal figures including commanders, heavy weapons, female troopers and even a beastman. They all had slottabases.

A squad set of plastic figures was released about the same time but I think they just glued straight down onto flat bases.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Oh yeah, I know metal guardsmen have slotta bases, I should've said 'current edition plastic Cadian guardsmen'. The first coupla guys answered my question.

I think it's a good idea in theory to have snap-fit minis to bulk out squads, but my FLGS sells them for $15 and it's just not worth it IMO. I can pay an extra $5 and get the 10-man kit that is posable, and comes with all the bits. Grr, I really need 50-60 more guardsmen for cheap.
