A lot has been written about Nids and how they consume a planet but one detail I think they overlooked (or perhaps Im mistaken) is subteranean life.

Rippers all work above ground afaik. Raveners and Trygons can burrow but arent consumers per se.
So that does leave a substantial amount of biomass undergound that is still full of life.

In addition even on Earth there are creatures that live beneath the sand on the ocean floor, ok the ocean will be gone but those cretures necessarily wont.

Sure if they rise to the surface there isnt going to be a lot left but who is to say there arent many and possibly large organisms still alive on Nid worlds that have been consumed.

(I acknowledge the lack of oxygen/atmosphere after the Nids have chomped is a going concern but).

Also there are organisms that can survive in volcanoes amongst sulphar and extremely high temeratures which Nids may choose to avoid?

In short, I think its a little unfair to say that Nids consume ALL life on a planet.

I imagine ripper swarms will follow the burrowing creatures down the holes they create, plus the'nids introduce hazardous Tyranid Plant Life that could possibly consume things under the soil. Also, before the nids consume the saes and skies, I remember reading they crack the earth itself to get at it's nutrients. So the 'nids do indeed consume all life

They showed the process step by step in an old WD back in 2005, I don't remember the number of it exactly, just the good anti-Tyranid tactics it had.

Basically first step is to send down spores to effect the natural plant life and stuff like that. Then the smaller Tyranids show up like the Gaunts and Warriors. Then the larger ones show up to deal with the remaining threats while the tendrils start harvesting the bio-mass. What's left is just a rock, they take the atmosphere as well and leave the planet as incapable of sustaining life.
