It certainly makes sense, of course you would have to say how the Cardinals at first were adamantly determined to rid the world of Tau, but united against a common threat or something?
(The bonus is that you have the fluff for a reson to ally them in Apoc)

Also, would they view Tau technology as impressive/useful? Or as foul xeno tech to be destroyed?

The only thing I have to comment on...

AdMec literally despises ALL forms of Xenos technology, and really, Xenos in themselves. Due to AdMec using logic, Xenos are not logical beings and should be ridded of the universe. They do collect alien weaponry etc. but for study only.

That is the main reason it is a bit hard for AdMec tied Smurfs (who had Xenos in the first place) to play along nicely with Tau.

Otherwise it kinda works.

While I think it would be heretical to go so far as to actuall use and produce Xenos tech, it's certainly safe to say that studying xenos tech is harmless enough (it's not chaotically corrupted or anything). And if it leads us to useful weaknesses to exploit, all the better!

Actually untrue comrade

The mighty adeptus is fascinated by Necron Technology, and are constantly studying Xenos Tech. Yeah, in the public they are very much for the purity of human technology and all that jazz, but there are several cases of the Mechanicus researching or attempting to obtain Xenos technology

The only thing I'll point out is the Mechanicum 'sending' these astartes to obtain/study/whatever the tech.

I'd imagine the Mechanicum actually sending their own force, as they would likely distrust the Astartes (being as paranoid as a bag of insane spoons). Apart from that, I don't find it too hard to imagine Tau and Marines fighting side-by-side

I don't think the Mechanicum would actually 'send' the SM on a particular mission. However, they would probably 'appreciate' the efforts of the Cardnials in obtaining xenos tech. (Like giving them plenty of Land Raiders and vehichles etc)
