Hey!

I`m building up a LW Motor Rifle force. I currently own:
- HQ
- 1/3 Motor Rifle Company w/Komissar team
- 2/3 Motor Rifle Company
- 5*T-34/76
- 6*M4A2
- 1/3 Artillery Battalion w/Observer team

And an unknown amount of HMGs and PTRDs, hopefully enough to make a 1/3 coy of each. The Strelkovy Battalion boxed set is in the mail so I haven`t checked yet.

Now on to my actual questions. I feel quite confident in that I can breach an infantry line with my tanks and current infantry, even if the motor rifle coys aren`t at full strength per now. My main concern is AT capability, I know that I will face at least one tank coy (german) and one mec.inf coy (german) and from what little experience I`ve gained I know that the shermans and T-34s make poor tank killers if I can`t hit them in the side.

I`ve contemplated on getting air support as they can multitask quite well, but should I opt for something groundbased like IS-2, ISU-122 or ISU-152 instead?

I`m also planning on having a HMG coy, PTRD AT rifle coy and a Light Armoured Car Platoon. HMGs for the defensive half, PTRDs for the offensive part and LACP as escort for the T-34s that I want to use for breaching the enemy line.
Is this a valid strategy or should I enforce my motor rifle coys with more platoons or go for something entirely different?

I love the IS-2 models so personally would have a hard time not going with them, but I think such a potent tank would lead you to change your tactics and atmosphere of the army to circle around them.

A few ISU-122s would probably be the best in my opinion as it will have the AT force to put the fear of god into enemy tanks with AT 15, but it does have a downside with the 32" range compared to the 40" of some of the big cats. ISU-152 lacks the same punch and is not much cheaper so I wouldnt bother with them.

I agree on the IS-2s, I like the ISU-122s second best so they should be a good solid choice to go for

Just a caution on the PTRDs, AT rifles aren't that effective and with 5/5+ you're going to have a hard time doing anything other than scratching the paint on most Late War tanks. The tank assault 3 is a nice bonus for them, but there's probably a better place to spend those points.

Yeah I`m seeing that as well.

This is a rough outline of what I can fit in 1750 pts with the new input (and something that looks nice to play with):
- HQ
- 2/3 Motor Rifle coy w/Komissar team
- 2/3 Motor Rifle coy
- 5*BA-64s
- 5*T-34/76s
- 5*M4A2 Shermans
- 8*76mm ZiS-3
- 3*ISU-122

Then I have approx 15 points to spare.
