I am going to be starting an army similair to gue vesa looks wise where i will use imperial guard troops and tau vehicles and battlesuits. Both converted to fit together a little more. But here is the question which codex should I use. For the imperial guard codex i would use battlesuits with converted weapons as ogryns and modified tau tanks for valks and of course imperial guard troops. And for the tau i would have seperate gue vesa squads soe converted to act as firewarriors others to act as kroot. Fluff wise the army is not gue vesa so they arent automatically tau. They are imperial guards within stolen and modified tau technology. the other thing is this the main armys im gonna fight are chaos and eldar so i want to be able to beat them.

Would this be tournament legal?

How and why would ANYONE let you use the "best parts" from 2 codexes? Codex was written to have its weaknesses. You can't use both the Imperial Guard and Tau codex to mix and match what you want.

I think he's pretty clearly trying to do a "counts as" deal and just wants to know which codex would be easier to use for this. I think the Tau codex would be less of a shoehorn. The infantry aren't a big deal no matter what you do. The big deal comes with the battlesuits and grav tanks, which come from the Tau side and have no easy analogue from the Guard army.

Using both counts as fire warriors and kroot gives you a nice opportunity to mix Guard models, eg Catachans for Kroot and Cadians for fire caste.

Well actually ogryn battlesuits but im thinking tau codex and yes Raxmei read my mind its all "count as" and I was thinking of doing different infantry for kroots and fire warriors. You sir, are a mind reader. The other idea was this: get both codexs and switch depending on the battle, probably not for tourneys but at least with friends. Also, which is better for killing chaos and eldar, tau or imperial guard?

Tau Codex. You COULD use the IG codex but eeeehhhh. It would be some extensive work and Ogryns suck.

IG Codex would work if you used such things like Sents for Battlesuits... It wouldn't even have to use battlesuits really. (Maybe GKT too....) That would be probably the best thing, to avoid Battle Suits if you go with the IG codex and have them modeled cool and use the Tau's "cool" weaponry.

Yeah thats what i was worried about: the suckishness of ogryns and i love tau battlesuits so using them as ogryns and having them be slaughtered would just be depressing. Again though, does anyone know which army is better against chaos?

Im with John, whatever you choose, make sure its very clear what is what. Nothing more annoying then having to ask someone 8 times a game "what where those again?"

Oh i will im gonna model em differently and if thats not enough the count as kroot and count as fire warriors are both gonna be cadians, but with different colored armor and different looking gear, all within the same color scheme and army theme of course.
