are Drop Pods the new method of choice to get your marines into combat now adays? I haven't played competitively since 3rd edition, and casually since 4th, and have seen tons of people with the plastic drop pods in pictures of their army. I remember when those things cost like 100 bucks from forge world and were all metal. Boy do times change fast.

Drop Pods are the way to get your dreads and sternguard in 1/2 melta range.
You want to keep your Marines out of HtH.

I used to dream about plastic drop pods back in the days of my old SW drop pod army. I built my pods out of pvc parts. Now that there are nice looking relatively cheap models I don't really need them anymore, as I use rhinos and razorbacks for my army these days.
I know one of these days I'll go crazy and order eight or nine pods to ressurect my pod army.

These are my thoughts, too.
They are good to bring Dreads or Sternguard with combi-meltas close to the enemy,
but for Tactical units its better to keep the enemy at arm's length.

And I just found out earlier in a different post, Marines cant take heavy weapons unless its a full 10 man squad? What is this malarky?

On a crowded table, I would rather put down a drop pod, with its relatively small footprint than a whole unit of troops. Besides, they look cool!

Because 3 each Attacks when assaulted, Dual Melta, a Power Weapon and a Model with up to 8 Rending Attacks should stay outside of HtH because? Ooooh, you mean Boring Wimp Marines!
