I'm not sure what forum this goes in since it's not a full army list, but I'm wondering what folks would think of an Ork army that took 3 units of these:

5 Deffkoptas - 270 pts
1 Deffkoptas - Buzzsaw; Twin Linked Rokkit Launcha; Choppa
1 Deffkoptas - Buzzsaw, Twin Linked Big Shoota; Choppa
1 Deffkoptas - Bigbomm; Twin Linked Rokkit Launcha; Choppa
1 Deffkoptas - Twin Linked Big Shoota; Choppa
1 Deffkoptas - Twin Linked Rokkit Launcha; Choppa

If I understand the wound allocation rules, you need 6 unsaved wounds (4+ SV, T5) to lose one, and it seems like they could do a lot of damage. Is it too much of a 1-trick pony? How would you counter such a thing? (I know it smells of rotten cheese).

thanks,
dave.

Wound allocation is part of the game. There is no cheese.

3 Units such as you describe are not very focused. I do not think spending 800+ points on Koptas is going to buy you much in the end.

However, such an experimental list could be fun to play.

MAKE OF THIS WHAT YOU WILL, FOR YOU WILL BE MINE IN THE END NO MATTER WHAT!

The land of cotton.

The unit isn't very focused other than to stay alive. I dislike such units as the main reason for increasing resiliency in my opinion is to let the unit live long enough to deliver it's payload (whatever that is).

Take Nob Bikers, for example. The whole reason to exploit wound allocation is to get a wicked nasty bunch of power klaws into assault. Or the Kustom Force Field Mek in a Battlewagon... it's to get that mob of Slugga Boyz or MegaNobz to the fight intact.

That said, you could cut it to two Koptas each with Rokkits and one with a Buzzsaw and now you have a good tank and light vehicle hunting unit that also can engage MEQ reasonably well and can only be kept from regrouping by total annihilation... better use of points.

I started out there & got bit by the "If it's worth doing, it's worth over-doing" bug.

What I was thinking was first-turn shock troops to engage his anti-armor capabilities and let the battlewagons get across the field. But I see that having nearly 1/2 your pts in 3 units could be a bad idea.
