So here is my new list.
it's based upon my 2000 pts. list but with some extra gear and needed shooting capabilities.

socerer lord: mot, power familiar, dispell scroll, level 4 wizrd = 305

sorcerer: mot, book of secrets, golden eye of tzeentch, disk = 175

exalted hero: shield, mok, runesword, juggernaut = 230

warriors (18): shields, full command, banner of rage = 353

warriors (18): shields, full command = 318

warhounds (5) = 30

warhounds (5) = 30

marauder horsemen (5): light armor, flails, musician = 86

knights: mok, musician = 240

knights: musician, banner of wrath = 275

hellcannon = 205

Just some tips off the top of my head:

- Get a spell familiar on sorc. lord instead of the power fam. in order to roll gateway more often as that is the reason to even take lvl4 MoT IMO. And since you're both using the book and casting a high value spells, give one of the sorcerers the puppet to counter the nasty miscasts and make most of the pandemonium.

- I've used jugger exalted with a magic weapon myself not long ago, but I must say that flail is so much better and saves tons of pts. which you should use putting MoS on your horsemen.

- Warrior units of 12 are big enough.

- Halbers + shields work really good on warriors.

- For the pts. you save getting rid of the warriors buy one more unit of marauder horsemen, perhaps even drop one unit of warriors totally and get a block of 20-25 MoS Marauders with FC, LA, shields to support the warrior block (and do a much better job at it tbh).


And most people seem to agree that chaos magic should be either strong or purely defensive, thus I'd throw away either the hellcannon and replace it with a lvl2 nurgle sorc. (with a power familiar for example) or Festus (great support for infantry IMHO) OR drop the offensive magic items on the wizards and just treat them as DD generators.

If you have any points left, a unit of 3 dragon ogres with GW seem to be quite popular as a knight alternative to high AS enemies. I won't tell to wether to take spawns or not, since I am yet to test them in my army ; ).

As I said - it's late and these are just the major things that I can think of atm.


edit : oh and the sorc.lord seems to be better off on the disc (if you really want to put one of them on foot ofc, barded steed or a disc aren't that expensive).

I agree with K on a lot of points, and for me the first thing that jumped out to me was: your sorcerer lord is really easy to kill. And number two: he's also not very good at his job. So I think investing in a spell familiar for him, a puppet on somebody (ideally on a second caster, so your disc guy can stay a mobile fire support unit), and then some protection for the main man (a horse is a good start, a better ward would be grand) are good places to start.

The jugger's runesword (I prefer sword of might myself, with bronze armor if points permit), your magic banners, and even the hellcannon are good places to find points. The big warrior blocks I like personally, but I think they could benefit from a mark (MoK being less good, MoS being probably the most useful for keeping characters around) - and they could really benefit from a BSB, but that's pushing things if you're going 3 casters + killer exalted.

Thanks guys for the comments so far ,

the following things are now playing in my head based upon your comments.

giving the disk to my sorcerer lord.
change the power to spell familiar.
giving the sorcerer a puppet.
reducing my warriors to 12 to get point back (or banner)and giving them a mark (mon?)
getting an extra unit of marauder horsemen and giving both units a mark (mos or mon?)
maybe change my exalted's weapons.

I don't know if this is all going to fit and I don't have my book with me so I have to wait until I'm home.

I agree with the others.

I sometimes field 5 horsemen with flails and MOK, just to act as a suicide unit. Great for smashing through some scouts or just attracting some fire.

Big units of warriors are good on paper, but it's all too easy to avoid fights in WH. 12 per unit, always with shields at least, is best IMO.

Welllllll your level 1 and jugger have more than 50 points of gear each, and your level 4 really needs that golden eye that isn't doing the level 1 any good. Which still leaves a book of secrets the level 1 can't take along with the puppet ... Also you have some points a little busted up too. Actually, here's a brief rewrite that makes it legal:

L: Sorcerer Lord - MoT, golden eye, spell familiar, scroll, level 4, disc = 375
H: Sorcerer - MoT, puppet = 140
H: Exalted - MoK, sword of might, shield, jugger = 200

C: 15 Warriors - MoN, full command, shields = 300
C: 12 Warriors - banner of rage, full command, shields = 257
C: 5 Horsemen - MoS, musician, flails, light armor = 96
C: 5 Horsemen - MoS, musician, flails, light armor = 96
C: 5 Warhounds = 30
C: 5 Warhounds = 30

S: 5 Knights - banner of wrath, standard, musician = 275
S: 5 Knights - MoK, musician = 240

R: Hellcannon = 205

Lots of clean up on the characters (the s.lord's points were kinda wack too), which left the jugger taking a hit but ah well, he's still beastly. Where are you putting the level 1? In the nurgle dudes, right? And then let the raging warriors rampage forward and splash against something squishy.

Also, you apparently have 6 points to mess with after I went pruning. Favor on the jugger ftw? Or biting blade on the level 1 perhaps, so he can do something besides flicker fire things and wave his puppet.

Actually, here's something to think about. If you can free up 30 points (5 warhounds, or the MoN on the warriors, or the rage banner on the little warrior block) then add the extra 6 to it, you can make the level 1 a level 2. This costs troops or protection or combat power, but adds another spell, another power die, the ability to roll 3 dice on the little dude. Might be worth it.

While WoC magic is good, and the hell cannon is good, doesnt one of the misfire rolls on the cannon cause a wound on all spell casters? Sure, its like a 1/36 chance, but hey, it could happen!

Id maybe try and get the golden eye on the disk sorceror - hes going to need a lot more protection from missile weapons that the other one who gets look out, sir!

Yea, the HC's misfire that causes all wizards to miscast occurred to me as possibly self-destructive to the list ... and my own gateway tizz list is perhaps just lucky that their HC hasn't turned on them yet

I think the puppet blunts some of the horror of this possibility, but it could still be apocalyptic. Maybe another reason to fire the HC less and kill stuff with it more?
