Just had a game of Napoleon with fellow Dakkite Holidayhalflife. First game for both of us and although it was fun there seemed to be a few holes in the rules. Does anyone know of any FAQs out there for them? My google fu has failed me and I would love to know if we were getting it right.

Just do what I did...

Dump it and buy 'Black Powder' instead.

I do like the look of Black Powder but had the impression that with 25-28mm figs it was better suited to battles on the "grand scale" ie thousands of minis on a big table with several players a side. Whereas I am looking for something for 2 players on a 8' by 4' max with a maybe a few hundred figs per side. Have you found it works well with that size of game?

We have been playing Black Powder on an 8 x 4 using small numbers of 15mm figures.

Each of our units comprises four bases at 40mm x 40mm. The games have around 10-12 units a side.

I dont think you really need a massive amount of figures for the game as you set the scale yourself, so you can fix it to your collection. On a smaller table though we do change the inches to cm's to allow a bit more manouvere on the table.

All the games have been highly enjoyable, and all fought to a conclusion in an evenings gaming.

We are planning an ACW BP game with over 1000 figures for next year but we are also playing an AWI game with only 8 units on either side. In short the rules work just as well with smaller numbers of units and they give a great game with the right 'feel'. What is nice is the ability to customise the rules and they have a good social aspect to them which seems to encourage players to play in the right 'character' if you know what I mean. Both the players who commanded the French cavalry in our games went charging off despite the request of the French commander not too...

Great set of rules and its the only rules our club now use for the Horse & Musket period.

The one thing that is really hurting my head is the army listing in napoleon, or more the squiffy flank/light company listings. How is it in Black Powder? Essentially can you make proper divisions/brigades. Oh and does it suggest the right bases for 28mm(victrix) minis? I've been basing on the 'Napoleon' rules(4 on a 40x40mm).

You'll have to forgive me, this is my first venture into historical wargaming, huge fan of the era for years, but first time out of the Gee-Dubya systems.
