Hey guys, I play a historical game, called Field of Glory, along with all the GW stuff, 40k/Fantasy. Anyway, the folks that put this game out, have provided their players with a ranking system that encompasses all events held.

Here is the link;

http://www.slitherine.com/files/fog/rankings.html

It has army rankings, player rankings by World, or Country, as well as tournament statistics. While no ranking system will be absolutely perfect as there won't be many cross state/country matchups, it will give an indication.

I know we can't rely on GW to do something like this, but the community as a whole could certainly do it. Thoughts?

I think GW used to have something similar the "Hall of Heroes," they called it.

Think it got shut down as it was against GW's vision of "The Spirit of the Game" that week.

Yeah, it would have to be community driven, no way GW would do something like this.

Yeah, I can't see GW doing this themselves. As they repeatedly state, 40k is not intended to be a competitive, touney-style game.

If you want to play it that way, they're fine with that, but you'd have to create your own 'rankings'

There is an effort presently afoot for US Warhammer, though I don't believe they're doing 40k at all yet.

Andrew Galea, that guy that runs it is always looking for more events / countries to come on board. The UK / AUS / NZ rankings are already well established.

He's probably worth an email.

I don't think 40K or WFB need a system like the DCI. I think it would devalue the content of the game. Leave ranked tournament play to the CCG's.

Hi !

A ranking system combined with a powerful annoucement & preinscription system exists in continental Europe. However, it is used only in German and French speaking countries for the moment. It's tabletoptournaments.net AKA "T3" .

It exists from a few years now, and now every important tounament held in these countries is annouced, and has its results gathered there. Even GW official Throne of Skulls ! It's important to notice that this project is entirely independant and homebrew !

About ranking : a player starts from zero, each tounament he fought in gives him some points, dependant of player position, number of players... A given player can only gain points for participating in tournaments. Not like in Magic TG where you go down in points when you lose. At least you will always gain a little tiny points even in last position. However, earned points decrease over time, so there are some "has been superchampions". Most hardcore veteran players have fought 20, 30 or even 50 tounaments, wich are accounted in the database.

Have a look :
WH40k tounaments announcement page (international) :
http://www.tabletoptournaments.net/eu/t3_overview.php
continental-european W40k rankings :
http://www.tabletoptournaments.net/eu/t3_etr_show.php?gid=3&cid=0

Same exists for WHFB and non-GW games.

System is well though works remakably well in Germany, France, Belgium, Holland, Austria and Swiss. It has been translated to english recently, and is trying to find it's way in USA now. I think that tounament system and organizations is quite different here in Europe, but it's up to USA tournament administrators to give him a try !
