So some guys were telling me about a tournament years ago that was a fundraiser for something or another. The gimmick was that you could pay for rerolls. Evidently it was a huge success as a fund raiser. How much would you PAY to win?

PROSECUTOR: By now, there have been 34 casualties.

Well if it was announced as a fundraiser event up front. I would go in with a certain figure I was willing to donate, give that, and just enjoy the tourny for what it is.

I agree with 'grog.

As a fundraising event, I'd probably buy all the re-rolls that I could afford, but I don't know how many I would actually use.

Columbus, Oh

I think the OP is talking about a tourney where, say, if you completely fail a LD check on a unit, you can throw a couple bucks into a kitty and reroll on the spot.

Not pre-paid reroll tokens, per se.

At least, the one tourney I went to that sold re-rolls had you pony up the money as you were rolling the dice..

2+2=5 for sufficiently large values of 2.

Order of St Ursula (Sisters of Battle): W-2, L-1, T-1
Get of Freki (Space Wolves): W-3, L-1, T-1
Hive Fleet Portentosa (Nids/Stealers): W-6, L-4, T-0
Omega Marines (vanilla Space Marine): W-1, L-6, T-2
Waagh Magshak (Orks): W-4, L-0, T-1
A.V.P.D.W.: W-0, L-2, T-0

I think it's a pretty slick idea. Though I roll complete gak all the time, so it'd run me dry.

If that were the case the same principle would apply. Have a preset amount you want to spend and aportion it through out the tourney accordingly.

Seems like a fun idea for a fundraiser. Obviously, it wouldn't be the world's most competitive event, but that's really not the point, is it?

This is basically (exactly) what my group did a while back. 40k Tourney with a 3-can buy in. Every can/non-perishable food product you donate (including the first 3) gets you a ticket that you can spend at any time to reroll, or spend 2 to force someone ELSE to reroll. Not the most competitive, but that wasn't really the point. Everything got donated to the food bank afterwords (Except the pickled bologna, but that's another story entirely).
