...if master strategist stacks allowing for a +2 on the reserves roll?

If so, would fielding a Autarch and Prince Yriel be a good idea?

I plan on running swooping hawks lots of swooping hawks.

P.S. I'm the first Eldar player at my hobby shop

Master strategist does stack.
I will point out, as a long-time Eldar player, that swooping hawks are commonly considered the most ineffectual unit in the Eldar codex. The models are beautiful though so build your army as you see fit.

Agree with the guy before. Swooping Hawks are terrible shooters. Great in movement though.

Personally Swooping hawks have not performed well for me the times I have used them. I have always found Warp spiders perform better.

As other have said they are not the "best"

But if they are a unit that you like for there fluff or just there looks go right ahead and use them.

There are alot of things that I use that are not the "best" ether but after playing with the unit for awhile you learn what they are good at and what they are suited for. When I had my eldar I used them as well and rather liked them .

Beautiful models, and at least having two autarchs makes them semi-effective as they can do a bounce-grenade-bounce tactic. Well, maybe semi-effective is still overstating it, but less useless.

Though guards may sleep and ships may lay at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire.

+2 to reserves generally means a mech/jump/fast list.
It's able to be 'immune' to damage the first turn, and come onto the board to get the first shot.

As for hawks, there are several ways to use them:
1. Yo-Yo Hawks: skyleap and throwing those grenade packs onto the enemy, late game objective contesting (meh, as it's IMO not that likely).
2. Focusing on anti-GEQ, though you'll really want something to block line of sight to them or obscure them, they are not that durable.
3. Anti-Vehicle: prob. the most dangerous job for them..as they bunch up after attacking a tank.

Yes, their speed is their sell point.
That's a possible 24" charge range with a nice fleet roll, and a 36" effective range for their weapons.

But the Eldar codex is an older dex, so they don't 'look' like they've been given the lovin' we see these days. I don't suggest alot of hawks, but go with what you want.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Although probably not the most competitive, I've always wanted to run a squad of 5 hawks, with an exarch with a power weapon, then join Baharoth and an Autarch into the unit... Then have them deep strike around, and basically try to hamstring your opponents support units, longfangs, devestators, lootas, what ever.

It wouldn't be the most omg killy unit ever, and infact would probably be way overpriced, but it could still be fun with enough support.

You kinda would need to include Baharoth too... otherwise an autharch and warp spiders just do the same job better...

Xom finds this thread hilarious!

Well I recently got like $1500 and I was looking through the codex and thought they'd be good but if the general census is bad I might not go that route. any opinions on which way i should go with my eldar army?

(yes Im spending most of it on 40k because Im awesome)

Right now I have:

1 Avatar
6 fire dragons
20 rangers
20 dire avengers
1 Autarch
12 or 18 howling banshees (cant remember off the top of my head)
12 swooping hawks
1 Fire prism
1 Wraithlord

+2 to reserve is fun but the various powers of a farseer are pretty fun as well. I'm working on an Eldar army myself and am gonna have only 1 autarch at a time.
Won't be using Hawks though, instead I'll use that lil +1 to outflank with War Walkers and Scorpions.
Should be fun.
