Hello there! what would be a good army to play for someone who likes shooting, variety, but good toughness?

Space Marines.

There are numerous viable lists in their book, the have decent toughness, (4) and have plenty of range firepower.

I'll go one extra step and suggest plague marines

Toughness 5, 3+ armor with a 4+ feel no pain save.

Statistically, I believe they come out to being a little tougher than a terminator.

Concur, Marines seem to be a good choice to fit in with your requirements

Grim Forgotten Nihilist Forest.

I say Chaos Marines.

Plague Marines would fit the bill but personally I thought of Noise Marines.

The ladder can be kitted out for long range and close ranged shooting.

And Plague Marines easily are the most durable troops choice in the game.

I've sold so many armies. :(

If you mean T5, then Plague Marines are tough and shooty, but at close range. They can't take heavy weapons, though you can give their heavy weapon squads Marks to get them some way to being full PMs...

If you're happy with T4 and a decent armour, then lots of Marine variants would do. Shooty SM, Noise Marines, Iron Warriors, Dark Angels, etc

Also, a Crisis suit-heavy Tau army would work out quite tough, and very shooty. It's just their regular troops that aren't so tough...
