I participated in the Valentines Day Massacre GT in Media, P.A. this past weekend. It was the first GT I've ever been to and I had alot of fun. I was impressed with the organization...great job Mike from Showcase Comics and the guys from Big Gunz. I'm looking forward to attending many more.

There were alot of awesome looking armies, and I didn't care what people were running as far as lists were concerned. If you know how to run your army using what's available from your codex than more power to you! I was pretty impressed with some of my opponents tactical prowess. Fun games indeed!

It was great to meet some new players. Coming from my local game store, I was blown away by how big and competitive 40K has become over the last decade or so. It makes me want to be a better player and hobbyist.

Well that's all I have to say about that!

Oh....and Congrats to all the winners! (and my boy, Nick Nanavati(yermom), from my local gamestore who got 3rd for army general!...way to represent!)

Later dudes!

Would you mind posting your list? Yours was one of the armies I saw and thought was nicely balanced.

Comp is always a challenge. I think that changes will be made because this tournament is really geared towards player feedback. Hopefully we see something akin to the fantasy GT comp system. I really like your list, it really seems to have a bit of everything without spamming or going over the top too much.

I didn't realize you had Pask before, he makes that tank way nastier! Cool stuff though, seems fun to play still.

It was a good tournament I'm the nid player that got 3rd best general. I also got a 1 for comp so you can see comp was all over the place. My battle reports are up in the report section. And thanks for the shout out Tom!

Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

Great to meet you all!

Did Damian not win best overall? I don't know if the marines/CSM/Guard were in order or not for best overall.

Did Matt win 3rd best overall with the foot-slogging IG?

I posted on the SVDM thread on "Schedule a game" with this:

Ah....18 hours of gaming, 14 hours of driving.

Lots of fun was had; I'll write some battle reports this week. Mike ran a great event; missions were balanced (although not a single one had any nightfight..*sniff*). I didn't stay for awards in hopes of getting home by midnight (massacred out of the top tables in game 5), but for this being my first GT, I'm pleased with the event, the folks who attended, the friends I made, and the smooth gaming. There was a *lot* of grumbling about comp scores from seemingly everyone, but I care less than others; my goal was to meet people better than I can find locally and it was a tremendous success!

Sunday morning was hard on everyone after a hard night of drinking Saturday night - I was actually quite sober because I started drinking Saturday around noon and had about a fifth in me by nightfall, at which point I stopped and sobered up over dinner. *laughing*

I was a little paranoid of how I'd get along because of localized drama closer to home, but I liked everyone I met and only had a single rules issue - one of my opponents (Necron) flux-arced a battlewagon, wrecked it, and thought the same shot should also hit the boys piling out. That got resolved quickly though!

And every time I think I know all the rules, I learn something new; and I picked up a few new rule notes while I was there (models vs. units in multi-assault, reserves counting for killpoints at the end of the game). I also learned to fear Vulkan and the dual land raider list; I pulled three full point massacres, and if not for a 2nd round loss to dual landraider vulkan melta/redeemer flamer and other nastiness that I'd never faced before and didn't know how to deal with (as my ork boys run up to his land raider to power klaw the sides of it, my opponent rubs his hands together in glee....and the following turn tells me that those are flamers on the sides of his land raiders, not twin-linked lascannons....) I might have been a contender for the top.

Here! here! had a great time even if my vlak-heavy IG got their butts kicked almost every game. For my first tournament in many years I was happy not to be slaughtered.

the only bad experience I had this weekend was hitting a foot deep pothole 5 minutes before I got to my house on the way home, completely shredding my tire off the rim, and messing up my shocks and alignment!

and the funniest thing was being awakened in my hotel room at 4:15 in the morning to a girl and guy doing you know what in the room next to mine! hahahahaha!! oh ya, oh ya!

Are you Justin? The other one?

I saw the mech IG lists and had my fingers crossed that I wouldn't have to face them.

No justin had the genestealer cult ig army, that took best painted.

As for best overall Dash, that was me! Yay! Damien was second, after pulling an 18 over Alex Fennell with 4 spawn rolls that killed three daemon princes/greater daemons(The Everliving I think?). Matt was third IIRC.

Tom did you have to play mirror guard in round 1/2?

I only played against other Guard twice the whole GT. Round 1 I played against Justin with the Genestealer Cult IG army....and then round 3 I played the kid running the multi-variant Leman Russ squad list...

Congratulations!

I'm pretty sure we met, I remember someone saying that they were DevianID, but all 50-60 people in there were strangers to me and I met a lot of people. I remember Alex because he's british and had the other pink army, Damian because he had LED lights on his chaos...things....and my opponents (Lou, Jesse, Matt, Tim and the other guy >< as well as a few other folks that I engaged in conversations with (Mark, Shane)....but which person were you? Trying to match a face here. Got a picture? =p

The pink orks and the pink chaos marines left friends.

I missed best overall by 1 point=-) I learned alot, one of which was not to be greedy (I lost 6 points in 3 games by "going for broke")
Tourney was ALOT of fun, good armies, good people....

I wish round 5, table #1 would have gotten to finish... hate to see a serious game like that on turn 3!
